Read about a brand of fresh "homemade" baby food that you can buy from the freezer section of some supermarkets called "Babylicious". Has anyone tried these, have had a look at the website and they sound quite nice? www.babylicious.co.uk . Most of the meals are for 7mths plus, so wondered if they had quite a few lumps in?

i've tried the full range and to be honest, I think you are better just making your own!

I didn't think it was lumpy at all. Very pureed in comparison to 7 month jars. I bought it because I had a voucher, but I think it is very expensive and even though DS loved it it wasn't worth the money. I have now worked out that DS loves all food .

Thought they might be good to have in as back-ups, how much are they by the way?

I really can't remember now. It was 2 months ago I bought them and I have slept since then (only a bit!!!!) Yes they are nice but DS liked them so much that the twenty 'ice cubes' (ten of each) only lasted for 4 meals. I also found them hard to find. At our supermarket one week they were by the frozen icecreams/desserts and the week I went to buy them, I had to ask as they has moved them to next to the veggie quorn!!!!!!

Hi Alibo,

I can't remember how much they were as I used them last year however I personally thought they were great especially for days when dd and I have been out together and I come home to have nothing in the fridge! As you said great for backups.

This is the only shop brought food I have brought for Dd that actually smelt like proper food! We loved the chicken casserole and fish pie one and the pureed fruit was a bit hit with Dd and I (dd because she got to have it with some yogurt and me because it didn't have added sugar in it!)

We got ours in Sainsburys and I think it was around £3.00 for a pack of 2 trays.

Hope this helps!

Alibo - ds had some at the NEC Baby Show last year and like Julieha said, it smells like proper food. Was quite impressed, but the potions were very small - ds (10 mths at the time) had 3 servings to give him the size of lunch he was used to demolishing. I saw it in Asda for the first time last week.

muddaofsuburbia · 10/09/2004 21:24

That's poRtions - nothing occult about babylicious at all

alibo · 10/09/2004 22:29

Thanks for replies, may give some a try, ds 7mths is refusing nearly all his solids at the moment, you may have seen my protein/early waking thread and chicken casserole thread!!

Our local (rural) small Londis sells it, of all wierd places. Ds (just 1) had a portion for pudding at a friend's house today - something involving stewed prunes. Anyway it is the first time he has eaten something and said "mmmmmmmmmmm" after each mouthful! So it gets his thumbs up, even though he is above the target age.
It was pretty pureed, good for sort of 6 - 8mths age I think. Good to have for the freezer I'd have thought - especially the puddings if you are like me and religiously make your own main courses but rarely give them anything more exciting than fruit and yogurt for afters.

I used it as back-up a few times last year. DD liked it and it looked far more 'real' than food from jars. But it is expensive and I could find it only at Sainsburys, where I rarely shop, so I didn't use it much.

jane313 · 11/09/2004 22:33

It was really runny, like soup. I ended up putting some bread in it! I too only got it cos I got a voucher too

Haven't used Babylicious - but I do have another brand (Truuly Scrumptious) stashed in my freezer which I think is better for no other reason that one of my friends owns and runs the company that makes it all so I have complete faith in the ingredients and cooking methods. It's all organic too - not that I'm plugging it or anything !! Looks and smells like real food and dd loves it - only whe she's not having my own cooking though! Definitely more preferable to jars in emergencies!!

They have their own web-site which lists stocklists....

You should try All GOOD Stuff, its organic and very simple, great for back up and great for adding in with other foods. It can be popped in your freezer too. I got it in Sainsburys in the chilled aisle, its new so there are only a few varieties at the moment but I hear there are others coming out soon. Its in smaller portions like Babylicious but its not ready meals so its more versatile, and it tastes really good.

the little frozen pots looked tiny by the time i saw them, and just made huge mushed up ice cubes of my own.

KristinaT · 16/11/2004 14:26

Just found Babylicious at my local Tesco store in the baby aisle! at last it's in the right place! Had to phone up their customer services to find my local store but they were v friendly! My baby loves it, it saves me cooking, great idea! Wish I found it earlier. Should bring out more recipes, not sure if they are.

yingers74 · 16/11/2004 14:34

hello,

my dd has been largely brought up on home cooking and this stuff was the only product she ate and it meant I got a little break on the cooking front now and again! She is now too old for the stuff but when she was little she loved it. So give it a try!
