What is Quorn and how is it made?

I tend to eat and cook fresh food and though I am attracted to quorn as it's so healthy and tastes nice I do have to ask...

What the devil is it?
How is it made?
Should it be considered a processed food (like say, any ham that isn't off the bone)?
Should I eat the stuff?

I realise this is quite dull but if anyone out there knows the answers to any of my questions I'd be eternally grateful.

Quorn is a village in leicestershire

It is myco protein grown in vats from a type of synthesised fungus. Veggie purists don't approve as it is fake meat but I like it, it is very handy for dss who is veggie.

Um! Doesn't sound too tasty when called a synthesised fungus.

Synthesised = Processed?

Made using Fusarium venenatum which is a mold.
Note for allergy suffers: Quorn contains Egg White.

There is an Education website about Myco-protein for those who want to know more about the process of producing Quorn. They include a little diagram!
