We've got her 'Kitchen Bible' and it's great.

Don't know any of her others mind you!

I'd say none of them as her recipies fail without exception in my experience. Nigel Slater's Kitchen Diaries is fab tho as an alternative

I think I'll see if I can get any of her books from our library first.

the tarts one but i find her books, have 3, more autumn / winter even though they are seasonally laid out.
her insights/knowledge into the world of food are more enjoyable to read

'Simply the Best' & 'Good Tempered Food' are both fab, have never had a failure with any of her recipes (well one, but think it was the wine rather than the recipe....)'Simply the Best' is set out seasonally, 'Good Tempered Food' more by occasion/mood, she does write beautifully about food. Nigel Slater's Kitchen Diaries also highly recommended - getting hungry thinking about it - wouldn't bother with Jamie Oliver, people have bought them for me & I never use them - can be a bit blokeish

Another vote for "Kitchen Bible" here - it is fantastic and we have cooked an awful lot from it. It really is a useful book, not just pretty pictures and lifestyle guff....

Pidge · 13/07/2007 09:05

Thinking about it my ONLY minor criticism of the kitchen bible is that the index is not very readable - the fonts are all wrong and it's hard to separate the main headings from the sub-headings.

Oh and the Christmas pudding recipe appears to make about 4 x the advertised quantity!!

But it is a fab, fab book which I use all the time.

Love, love, love "Good tempered food" - have cooked loads from it & have never been disappointed. I have "the art of the tart" too, which is also good, but, obv., a bit specific!
