Will the Christmas cake still be ok to eat?

I make a Christmas cake each year with the kids, but take it to my parents to eat.

We made the cake quite late on in December, so didn't take it to my folks for Christmas but intended to eat it in the new year! Well I forgot about it! Sort of!

I've fed it 4-5 times each time it's been wrapped in parchment paper and foil and kept in a cake tin.

Would it still be ok to eat or should I just bin it?

It will be delicious!

It will be fine for months yet! Christmas cake is designed to last.

Fabulous!

A whole Christmas cake just for me then! DH doesn't like fruit cake and it's far too boozy for the kids!

Lush with a cup of tea!

As above, it will be fine (in fact, all the better for a bit more time).

If you don't want to have it all tempting you, you could also freeze it in slices or chunks and grab a bit out at a time.

I am so jealous!!!

It would be fine if you made it in December 2017, or probably 2016 for that matter. It lasts a few years and if anything will go a bit stale tasting long before it becomes 'dangerous'. It's full of sugar and booze.

It used to be tradition, and might still be the case, that the top tier of a wedding cake was used as the christening cake for the first DC, which for those who do things in a 'traditional' order, would typically be 1-2 years after a wedding.
