Flapjack using low added sugar fruit

Hi guys
I'm on a tough quest to find a chewy flapjack recipe with lower sugar content.

I know flapjacks should have syrup so i found that fruits could be a substitute. However, homemade jam seems to require an overwhelming amount of sugar.

Is it possible to puree some oranges with just a table spoon or so of sugar and use that in a flapjack recipe? Is it also possible to make like chewy butter flapjacks with minimal sugar. Any advice would be a blessing, thanks.

I make these low (zero?) fat and minimal sugar flapjacks for DH as a treat while he's on a very low fat diet.

5oz quick cook porridge oats
1 oz flour
1/2 oz sugar - or less if preferred
1/2 tsp bicarb of soda
1 handful of dried cranberries or sultanas
110g of apple puree (I'm in Canada and I use a school snack size pot of purees - not sure if they have the same in UK?)

Mix dry ingredients together in a bowl, pour in puree and mix well.

put mix on a baking tray (I just shape it into a rectangle at least 1cm high) and bake at 180 C or 350F for 10 mins. Cut into squares and eat!

The only difference I find is that it's a softer flapjack, butter probably gives it more crunch!
