Why is all beef just a 'roasting joint' now

Why can't I find rib of beef, topside, silverside etc in any of the supermarkets these days? It's all just 'beef roasting joint' which often means shoe leather.

I don't now the answer but I buy my meat at the butchers - no 'roasting joint' there.

Go to the local butcher's.

I do when I can, but disabilities mean I can't do much shopping alone so have to pick most of my stuff at a supermarket when I'm taken.

Aldi do brisket. Think Lidl may do too.

I think it’s for people like me who don’t have a clue what’s what and just need to know if we can roast it for roast dinner BlushGrin

I presume it's a piece which is not one of the recognised joints.

I think you can assume it will not be top-notch.

I'd roast it very slowly, or pot-roast it and uncover to brown the surface.

It depends where you live, but I find the s/marts do have some proper, identified joints on a different shelf.

Definitely bought silverside and topside in Sainsbury's within last few months...
