Do you have to cook them? Do you have to add sugar?

summer pudding for the currants and are the dessert gooseberries the red ones you can eat without cooking ? if so scoff them with cream

FrannyandZooey · 07/07/2007 14:22

So you can just eat them? You don't have to cook them or anything, even the dessert gooseberries (yes I think they are the red ones)

You can definitely eat blackcurrants and redcurrants without cooking. Redcurrants are yum.

pinkspottywellies · 07/07/2007 14:28

I'd stew them (together or separately) then layer in glasses with yoghurt (or whipped cream) and maybe serve with shortbread or biscuits.

red ones can be eaten raw - have had them once but still quite tart tasting.

probably best covered in ice cream. go easy on the fruit though.

FrannyandZooey · 07/07/2007 14:29

I don't want to cook them

I want to eat them in a bowl with strawberries and raspberries and cream and indeed I want to encourage others to do the same

am checking this is a good idea

Just eat them. They are delicious. Sod the cream. And green gooseberries are fine when squashy.

TooTicky · 07/07/2007 16:43

Mind you, ds2 loves green raspberries and blackberries

FrannyandZooey · 07/07/2007 18:43

Ah, it's for a pudding tomorrow when my mum comes, so we will have cream (sorry TooT)

the redcurrants take your breath away for a minute with their sharpness, but will be nice in a bowl mixed with strawbs and rasps I think
