We had chips yesterday, forgetting that I had planned to make burgers today. I plan to serve them in a bun, with salad but what else can I put with them other than chips Confused

Wedges
Sweet potato
Rice salad
Coleslaw

Do you need anything if you have a bun and salad?

LilouBlue · 24/02/2019 12:40

Cous cous? Or a salad?

Georgiemcgeorgeface · 24/02/2019 12:41

Make a fresh healthy coleslaw?hmmmm lovely I want it now!
Or potato salad?

Quooker · 24/02/2019 12:42

My teens would not be impressed with just a burger and salad. Coleslaw is a good idea. I had thought of sweet pot chips, but ds isn’t keen.

We just do a bun and salads. Coleslaw is my favourite.

Georgiemcgeorgeface · 24/02/2019 12:44

Courgette chips? You can slice courgette sprinkle with grated Parmesan and bake- delicious

PlinkPlink · 24/02/2019 12:45

How about some roasted med veg?

Red And yellow peppers, cherry tomatoes, red onion. Sprinkle on a bit of thyme and rosemary. Good glug of olive oil. Mix well.

Whack in the oven for about 45-50 mins at 180°c.

Seriously tasty. They might like it 😂 you could even add some halloumi cheese cubes towards the end?

Quooker · 24/02/2019 12:45

Potato salad would be good. Just feel it needs another carb.

Courgette chips sound delicious, unfortunately the burgers already have courgette in them.

Yes! A slice of halloumi.

Corn on the cob

Rubusfruticosus · 24/02/2019 12:49

Salad or another vegetable based side. If I had a bun I wouldn't be wanting another carb.

Quooker · 24/02/2019 12:49

Corn on the cob, another excellent idea. Will just have to slice it off for the one with braces Grin

@Rubusfruticosus are you a teenager with hollow legs?

I will not be eating the extra carb.

greenelephantscarf · 24/02/2019 12:51

surely the bun is enough carbs?
we only have salad or veg&dips with burgers

HalfBloodPrincess · 24/02/2019 12:52

I’d just do chips again tbh. Not gonna hurt once in a while

Rubusfruticosus · 24/02/2019 12:54

@Rubusfruticosus are you a teenager with hollow legs? I have an almost 13 year old, and I do know teenagers. Sides are great for getting extra vegetables into them, but if they can eat a burger and a good half a plate of veg and are still hungry then fair enough!

Quooker · 24/02/2019 12:55

Okay, burger and halloumi in bun, sweet potato chips, lettuce cucumber and cherry tomatoes, coleslaw and corn on the cob.

I have two teenagers with hollow legs but we have big burgers and buns and it does seem to fill us all up. Corn on the cob is a good idea though.

PenguinPandas · 24/02/2019 12:58

We do sweetcorn on cob, coleslaw, jacket.

Quooker · 24/02/2019 12:59

@Rubusfruticosus almost 13 I’m not worried about getting veg into them - the burgers are all veg anyway. They are all older teens and very sporty so eat enormous amounts.

Mashed or sliced avocado is great in a burger or in salad.

PinkHeart5914 · 24/02/2019 13:04

Onion rings & coleslaw

Quooker · 24/02/2019 13:06

Onion rings, yum.

Discobabe98 · 24/02/2019 13:07

I’d have mash or potato croquettes with corn on the cob Smile

themilkmansrabbit · 24/02/2019 13:09

I don't find flabby burger buns in any way filling. They're all air....

A small jacket potato? Rice or pasta or potato salad maybe?
