Caketastorphe HELP!

I have a Wilton 3-D cruiser cake tin. I have just attempted a cake with a 1lb of butter, 1lb of sugar, 1lb of flour and 8 eggs. I put in the oven at 170C. It has turned out horribly. Really really greasy. What have I done wrong?
I wonder if anyone has a recipe and a suggestion for how much cake mixture I should use also any tips to avoid another nightmare. Party is this Saturday.
Thanks

good grief.
What is a cruiser cake tin?

Hathor · 05/07/2007 19:53

sounds like a lot too much fat and eggs. I thought 8oz flour 40z sugar 4oz fat and 2 eggs was standard for a sponge.

It's a cake tin in the shape of a car. I think you are right about the ratio of fat to sugar and flour.

How much raising agent was in there?

MrsBadger · 05/07/2007 20:10

I'd only have used 7 eggs myself

was it SR?
did it rise?

I reckon you need something better than a Victoria sponge for a cake (and a tin) that size - Nigella has a dedicated recipe for novelty tins which I can post if yo ulike

MrsBadger · 05/07/2007 20:12

here's the Nigella one
