Dhal

I have made a lentil, butternut squash and spinach dhal this morning. I thought we could have it for dinner this evening, but I’m stumped as to what to put with it for a meat eater, any suggestions pleased? Thank you.

Why can’t they just have it as it is? No one needs meat every meal.

I’d also just serve as is.

I eat dhal with rice and yoghurt.

If I were going to eat that one with meat, I'd marinade some lamb chops in garlic, ginger and cumin and then grill it.

No meat needed! Plenty of protein and loads of flavour. My husband loves meat but happily has dhal with no meat.

I am not a meat eater but quite often have dhal with paneer and veg kebabs as they can be quite dry on their own. Maybe do some kind of meat kebab?

I bloody love dhal on its own too! I'd happily eat a big bowl with just some naan or chapatti to dip.

I’d serve that with rice and/or naan, a cucumber raita, and no meat. The daal is the protein source for the meal.

Recipe please :)

Fair enough, as it is then but with rice perhaps. I have never had dhal before and being vegetarian I assumed it would need meat accompanying it. I stand corrected!

Here is the recipe www.abelandcole.co.uk/recipes/roast-butternut-squash-spinach-lentil-daal

For future reference all Dahl needs is some lovely roti or chapati and you have food of the gods!

We never add meat to ours and my DH is the most carnivorous bloke going! He scoffs it down with a lovely roti or flatbread.

Agree, dhal does not need meat, just rice or a nice Indian bread, naan or chappati.
