Smoothies....a couple of questions

Is it possible to make them the night before and leave in the fridge overnight? I want to make mixed berry and banana with fat free yoghurt and skimmed milk but am short on time in the mornings. Also, when a recipe stipulates crushed ice, can ice be crushed with the grinder attachment? Thanks in advance!

Yes

can ice be crushed with the grinder attachment?

Depends on your food processor. Some can some aren't powerful enough. Check the instructions.

You can make them overnight but I wouldn't

What I used to do instead is fill the cup the night before then blitz quickly in the morning to stop it separating

Ice- yes in a very good processor or nutribullet. But not on a basic machine as the blades aren't sharp or fast enough

Yes to overnight but fill to the brim so there's very little air gap between the liquid and lid. Another foot way is to freeze a load then put a frozen bottle in the fridge (or worktop in this weather) to defrost over night. I used to do this and worked a charm. In the summer I'd take it out of the freezer and stick it my work bag and it was mostly defrosted by the time I got to work.

Don’t use a recipe with crushed ice if you’re making it the night before. It’s easy to forget that ice is simply frozen water, and a recipe uses crushed ice instead of water so that’s it’s thicker. If you leave it in the fridge, the ice will melt and make it thin and watery.
As your smoothie contains banana, it may turn a bit brown overnight. This is just oxidisation, and shouldn’t affect the flavour. To minimise this, store in an airtight container and fill the container completely to prevent air being trapped. Jam jars work well.
The best make-ahead smoothies usually contain little or no dairy, especially if the fruits are rather acidic, as it tends to curdle. Berries and bananas should be ok though. If you do have any problem, swap the milk for almond/hazelnut/coconut milk and likewise for the yogurt.

I find they taste best if i male in the morning so I put all the ingredients except the banana into the blender (nutribullet) and leave a banana beside the blender then in the morning I just add probiotics, Mach's powder and banana and ice and blend it takes less than 2 minutes.
