prune juice for constipation??

Have read other threads in archives recommending a bit of prune juice to help babies if they seem a bit "bunged up". ds is 7 month old, and will sip extra water with a bit of persuasion. If making prune juice, how many prunes would I need to boil, and with how much water? Don't want to make it too strong!! And how much would he need to drink to have any effect. Or would prune puree be better?

Sorry Alibo - nbo prune expert but ds was constipated as a baby (and still is ). HV told me to give him orange juice diluted which did seem to work. Also on a couple of occasions I did massage his tummy which worked frighteningly quickly

Just got back from France from holiday and my DS2 was really constipated whilst out there. I went into a French pharmacy and they sold me a medicine with totally natural ingredients (containing Prune, Apple etc) He had two spoons a day after meals and within a day he was fine - dont know whether you could get a similar thing at a health food shop over here for Babies (save time on boiling prunes

My 3 month old has been constipated with bouts of diarrhoea for the past week. I just soaked some prunes in water over night and then fed him the resulting "juice" via a syringe-- about 2 ounces. Within 2 hours he had a nice healthy bowel movement. I totally recommend this! And he seemed to like the taste as well.

you can buy prune juice in sainsburys.

Yes it works really well however DO NOT do as my DH did and give your child a whole litre bottle of the stuff! Thankfully they were at my mil's and not our house when it came out of both ends, my poor DD, she now thankfully recovered just fine but thought I would share so you don't make the same mistake (like you would).

You could also try califig

I would try giving a couple of ounces as ebmen did

As already said, you can buy pure prune juice in Sainsburys. I used to freeze it in ice cube trays as you only need such a small amount. I used to dilute and squirt in with a syringe.

DD1 used to suffer with constipation - her consultant (was prem) said 1 part prune juice (from shop) to 2 parts water. She would ahppily sip this from a bottle as required!

Also tummy massage.

DD2 suffered less but her (different) consultant) said used grated apple and squeeze the juice out. We did theis once - then used Califig! Long term she has had a much easier time with her bowels!
