Tinned pears

How can I make a pudding with them tonight? Don't have enough milk for custard to go with, no unfrozen butter for a sponge pudding which is my normal fallback, and I don't want to go to the shop again. There must be another clever recipe out there...

Microwave them and then eat with a scoop of ice cream instead of custard. They're also gorgeous with chocolate mousse. Or stew them with a pinch of cinnamon and stir them into porridge for breakfast! Or a tin of rice pud. They also go great in pancakes with Nutella.

Ooh, love tinned pears! My recipes involve butter tho, pear and almond cake is delicious, as is pear and chocolate pudding!

MrsRedFly · 14/01/2019 17:50

This is really yummy - but you need butter!

There might be a recipe using oil instead of butter - usually a muffin recipe

Blondie1984 · 14/01/2019 17:50

Warm them up with maple syrup and eat with ice cream

shoofly · 14/01/2019 17:52

Chocolate sauce, ice cream, flaked almonds? Pears belle helene

milkmoustache · 14/01/2019 17:54

Thanks all - keep them coming! I am going to carve off a bit of frozen butter and make a butterscotch sauce to go with ice cream after they've been warned up.
I have made the squidgy chocolate pudding, totally gorgeous but even chocolate mad DS says it's too chocolatey! More of a Sunday lunch pud I think.

Yes to the ice cream and chocolate sauce but I prefer chopped hazelnuts - scrummy! Smile

Blondie1984 · 14/01/2019 17:57

Or if you have bread you could do a Pear Charlotte

milkmoustache · 14/01/2019 17:59

I only have two slices of very worthy brown bread, so no Charlotte. Would tinned pears work, given that they are already quite floppy? I am intrigued...

Make green jelly in a flat dish. Then turn the pears into nice using flaked almonds as ears, tiny piece of glace cherry for nose, cloves for eyes, and string for a tail. Don't eat the last 2 bits.
Butter free.....

milkmoustache · 14/01/2019 18:21

Too cold for jelly, DCs too old for jelly!

greenelephantscarf · 14/01/2019 18:23

a crumble?
do you have milk? you could do a white sauce with vanilla and sugar/honey as custard replacement.

HotInWinter · 14/01/2019 18:26

You are NEVER too old for jelly!

SingaSong12 · 14/01/2019 18:27

Arrange them artfully in a bowl with a sprig of some herb or other and serve.

milkmoustache · 14/01/2019 18:27

Only one tin of pears, that would be a bijou portion each! Not enough milk in the house either. But I do have a plan now... I am enjoying the investment placed in my pudding by the Mumsnet army.

hotinwinter your suggestion made me smile inside! My mum used to shred the green jelly to look like grass, use flaked almonds as you suggest for ears, a small dot of chocolate sauce for a nose and whipped cream for the tail. She called it "bunnies on the lawn" Smile

When I was at school, one of my favourite puddings was homemade shortbread with tinned pears (and the juice) on top. Mmmmmmm!
