Are there alternatives to these ingredients?

I was looking today at a very simple bread recipe for DS to make but it calls for buttermilk and bicarb of soda - neither of which I can buy here. Is there an alternative? I know there is a way to make butter milk (it's milk and lemon juice or something like that) but I can't really remember. Can you advise?

You can use plain yoghurt instead of buttermilk and baking powder instead of bicarb.

(Where are you btw? have you tried the pharmacist for bicarb of soda)

Isn't butter milk where you make butter from cream by shaing it in a jar and then get liquid left over? Or is that summat else?

What sort of bread is this - soda bread? Regular bread is pretty simple is it not? Flour, yeast, salt, water, sugar...

Oh, is baking powder OK then, I thought there were lots of other things in it to. I'll give it a try, thanks.
I'm in Brazil BTW

The bit that looks like shagging it in a jar is supposed to say shaking it in a jar.

Yes, it's a fruity soda bread recipe. The problem with ordinary bread is all the hanging around waiting for the dough to prove. This one sounded yummy and speedy - also DS chose the recipe because it's called Spotty Dog.
