Slow cooker recipes with no pre cooking

I have got a slow cooker for Christmas
I need recipe ideas where I can bung stuff in on a morning with no browning etc as I have no time for that in the morning and it will be ready in time for tea (about 5ish)
Oh and any that are kid friendly as well would be a bonus. Any ideas?

Get a piece of meat or a whole chicken.

Switch on the sc, put meat in the sc, put the lid on leave until you come home.

4 chicken breasts, 2 tins of condensed mushroom soup, 2 sliced leeks. Stick it all in the sc and turn on. You can also add creme fraiche.

Serve with rice.

Beef and mushroom suet pudding (you can also use steak and kidney)
get some chopped beef and sliced mushrooms. Toss the beef in seasoned flour.

Set a kettle to boil.

Make suet pastry.

oil a pyrex dish, line with suet pastry, leave enough pastry for the lid.

Put a lid on the bowl, make a hole in the middle, fill with boiling water and place in the sc.

Pour 2 inches of water in to the sc around the bowl.

OP

If you want to do pasta or rice I find it is better to cook the meat in a sauce and then add the pasta or rice for the last 20 - 30 mins.

No liquid as the recipe just said brown sugar and the gammon. The sugar did turn to liquid very quickly and there is now about 2 inches of liquid sugar/eater out of the meat in the bottom. We will see in an hour when we eat it.

A whole chicken on a bed of chopped veg. Gives lovely juices for gravy.

Is the chicken not rubbery. Can you pre-brown it?

violeticecream · 01/01/2019 13:14

I got one for Christmas! Lots of recipe books on eBay/amazon. Wonder if anyone could also recommend any?

BertieBotts · 01/01/2019 13:15

You don't need to brown stuff even if a recipe suggests, I never do :)

violeticecream · 01/01/2019 13:15

I also feel the same as you op - the less prep the better!

No woodhill - it falls apart. You do get crap skin but the meat is lovely.

If you look dump recipes up on Pinterest there are heaps.

Have a look at The Batch Lady www.thebatchlady.com
She does dump bags - you fill a few freezer bags at a time with the ingredients for a recipe, then freeze. Defrost a bag the night before and dump in your slow cooker in the morning once it's defrosted.
