Meal for 10

Need ideas for a meal for 10 next week (8 adults, 2 kids) New friends so don’t know huge amounts about likes and dislikes other than no lamb and one doesn’t eat cheese, must be nut free as we have one with an allergy. Don’t worry ant to do a roast as have done several lately, they did a chilli when we went to them. Happy to do two dishes so there is a choice.

Pie and mash?

Something you can do on the hob would be best like a big chicken casserole (coq au vin type thing) with lots of buttery mash and green veg. Or could you get 3 trays of homemade lasagne and garlic bread in the oven and do a salad?

I think lasagne is out due to the cheese which is a shame because it would have been easy on me! I think something like coq au vin may be the way to go but seems a bit old school. I’m not sure I’ve got the muscles to mash spuds for 10! I’m still thinking about doing a choice of 2 as well.

Jamie's chilli con carne and rice, coc au vin and baked potatoes, green salad

Curry with rice, poppadoms and naan. One spicy one not so.

Tagine and couscous. This recipe is a vegetarian one but chicken tagines are also popular www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/butternut-squash-chickpea-tagine

Steak pie, unless you are in Scotland and will have already had it on NYD.

I've just done lasagne and chicken and ham pie.

We had new roast new potatoes, garlic bread and salad with it

I use an electric hand whisk to mash spuds - makes light work of it. Coq au vin is a classic. You could do it with leeks instead of onions and white wine (Riesling is the usual choice - you can use a dry one).

What about a nice beef casserole if you want to keep things quite traditional?

Otherwise I quite having a "theme" e.g. morrocan, Indian or Mexican. Then you can do a variety of dishes to cater to all tastes but it still feels unified and a bit fancier than normal.
