Gammon as part of a roast dinner?

Hi all, would you serve gammon with roasties and Yorkshire pudding etc etc?

We're having friends for dinner tomorrow and I have a large-ish smoked gammon joint from lidls. So nothing fancy. I normally simmer it with bay leaves and cloves and then serve it with chipsand egg one night, make pea and ham soup and use the rest for sandwiches. Could I roast it instead? And will it give off enough pan juices forgravy?

Thanks!

@Chaosandmadness just wondering, as I'm thinking about my Christmas menu, do you eat it with gravy? Or make parsley sauce type thing instead? Or neither?

I'm doing gammon for boxing day. I usually slow cook it until it falls apart, then put in a roasting tin, pour honey over and pop in the oven for 20 minutes. I then use the honey and juices in gravy.

I like the sound of cheesy leeks, does anyone want to share a recipe?

I don't usually do any gravy or sauces with my gammon as it tastes good without.

I do a tangy marmalade sauce with gammon. Not gravy. You have to think about serving a sharper sauce with gammon but there is no reason not to do roast potatoes and a variety of vegetables.

I boil the gammon first for around 30 mjnutes to get some salt out of it. I then stud the gammon with cloves and glaze with marmalade. Then roast. It can accompany turkey or serve as an alternative to roast meats or have cold. Always yummy though!

Cheesy leaks for me is baby leeks just shown boiling water, then drained. Add a cheese sauce (béchamel with cheese) to the leeks that have been put in an ovenproof dish and then sprinkle cheese on top. I like cheddar and Parmesan. Cook in a hot oven until sauce bubbles and cheese melts. Around 20 minutes.

Ooh thanks for the suggestions everyone. I had never heard of Cumberland sauce, will give it a look.

Oh yes, that is lovely. Well seasoned roast gammon is gorgeous. Yorkies and roasties galore, yummy gravy - don't forget the pease pudding.
