Looking for good sausages that kiddies will eat

My children age 4 and 2 wont eat sausages. I only want to buy sausages with a good meat content, but all of the quality sausages are too peppery and herby and often coarse. Does anyone know if any of the supermarkets sell a nice mild sausage which is soft and well minced up. We had toad in the hole tonight, hubby and I loved it but the children just couldnt get on with the sausages which tonight where the ones from Sainsburys that Jamie Oliver is advertising at the mo.

We eat veggie ones in this house - Cauldron Foods Lincolnshire and then we discovered that Tesco do a similar line in the frozen section. Don't know if that helps but DS1 eats at least one a day...

My 3 love Marks and Spencers Premium Sausages - high meat content (93%) - in fact they're the only sausages DD2 will eat. Did try to palm her off with normal Safeways ones but after sniffing/quick taste declared that these weren't the "ones we normally have!"

Sainsburys do 95% meat ones, which are lovely.

Lou33 - do you mean the Taste the Difference sausages, have tried them and they are no go.

Tescos do some good value ones for about 99p for 8 or 12(in polystyrene and clinfilm and very pink)...they are not spicey at all....Wall's sausages are about £1.59 for a lb but have very little in the way of spiciness or richmond sausages....but I would definetely say from someone who has tried nearly every sausgae that Tesco does, the finest range are good quality and very high meat content, something like 86% but the downside is they are spicey...although the pork and herb/pork and leek are good....and butcher's choice are quite mild too!!

I was going to suggest the Taste the Diff chipolatas, but I have a feeling they have the same filling as the fat ones. (I love them but can see that a small child prob wouldn't.)

Do they do a taste the diff sausage meat? If they do you could roll your own (as it were)?

Have you tries 'wee willie winkies' or equivalent? They are the really small sausages (20 in a pack) that most kids love. Don't know about meat content though

I use Richmond-I cant stand having even the slightest bit of "gristle"in my sausages and Richmond are the only ones that are consistently free of it.

jampot · 30/08/2004 00:03

I use Richmond too - the children love them!!! although dd says she may become a vegetarian and dh told her she'd still be okay to eat sausage because the meat content is negligable!

GeorginaA · 30/08/2004 00:15

Another vote for Richmond here too - having had some nasty sausages as a kid, Richmonds are now the only ones I'll eat (don't like the fancy herby ones either), and they're always yummy. Please no-one tell me the meat content unless they're exemplary though...

bobs · 30/08/2004 00:38

Richmond too - they do a skinless version which is good for young children

enid · 30/08/2004 06:31

Tast the diff much too salty IMO - Helen Browning organic ones (also from Sainsburys) are brilliant but quite expensive - smooth inside and quick to cook.

enid · 30/08/2004 06:32

but must say that mine are 4 and 2 and the 2 year old hates all sausages (despite liking every other food known to man) so you may just have to forgo them...
