There's a BBC report which seems to be a storm in a teacup.
I reckon when we were less "civilised" we'd have chewed the food for our pre-teeth babies first and handed it to them to eat. Isn't pureeing and spooning simply the modern equivalent? Children soon let you know when they want to feed themselves as they grab the spoon and/or dip their hands in the food and stuff it in their mouth (and just about everywhere else). Common sense tells you that it has to be reasonably soft food which is what pureed stuff is anyway.
Hate the jars of bottled stuff though - what a waste of money - they're processed and flash-heated so I can't see that they'll be anything like as good as fresh stuff.
