dc (secondary school) is home half an hour before the rest of us and ravenous after school.

likes to have something warm, so potnoodles/mugshots/cuppasoups feature heavily.

bread etc is available but dc prefers something warm as takes packed lunch to school.

can you buy freeze dried veg to make your own healthier versions?

Have a look on Pinterest for ramen in a Kilmer jar - loads of healthier ways to make noodles.

Batch cook soup & freeze?

thanks
I like the ramen idea.

What about a toasted sandwich. My teens love them. Pesto and sun dried tomato is their favourite, but good old ham and cheese goes down well too.

thanks I think we have one at the back of THAT cupboard...
I'm trying to get more veg, less stodge into dc...

Lakeland do toastie bags that you just shove a sandwich into and then chuck it in the toaster. They're supposed to last 500 uses, but we had a set that lasted a LOT longer than that. They're pretty fail safe as long as they go in the toaster with the open end UP at the top (you can work out why I stress that, I'm sure).

Tupperware boxes of homemade soup such as a chunky broth in the fridge - easy for them to fill a mug with it and reheat in the microwave. If you divvy it up into recycled takeaway boxes, it's even pre-portioned.

Homemade nachos - a small packet of lightly salted tortilla chips, a grating of cheese and a spoon of salsa (mild or spicy), melted for just a few seconds in the microwave (the chips burn easily so they need watching). Add a bit of sour cream and guacamole after.

Quesedilla - dry frying pan, heated. Small tortilla, lightly cover with a bit of grated cheese, some salsa, maybe some jalapenos and some ham, top with another tortilla. Put into pan and cook for a minute or two till brown in spots. Flip over and cook the other side (will take less time). Slide onto a plate and slice into triangles.

Quick stir fry - have a bowl of pre-chopped, prepared stir fry veg in the fridge ready to go. Shove on the frying pan, a spray of oil and throw in a few handfuls of veg with a handful of cashew nuts and a splosh of soy sauce, some sweet chilli sauce and a blob of honey. If they're super hungry and dinner will be a couple of hours, they could always add some straight to wok noodles too.

If they'd like something sweet, what about porridge pots? These could be sitting ready to go in the fridge, so all they need to do is add hot water or microwave it to warm through.

Look up overnight oats online.

Oops - don't store in the fridge in glass, unless you can rely on your dc to transfer it to a proper bowl that can take the boiling water. That change in temperature could be a disaster when the hot water goes in to a fridge cold glass. My bad.

Something like this might be good.

Straight from the freezer, 4mins in the micro and they're quite tasty. I use them after work sometimes if I've had to miss lunch and tea is going to be a while. Enough to keep you going but not too much that you won't eat dinner.

Dal? I do a big batch in the slow cooker and then store it in portions in takeaway boxes.

Savoy

What's your daal recipe?

This one.

The Spice Tailor do kits which are quick and easy.

I use one of their curry kits with either lentils or chickpeas as well.
