Microwaving spinach?

This may seem like a very basic question but I've never done it before! I'm having a big lunch on Sunday, and I'm trying to find ways to avoid my usual fuck-up of all the last-minute stuff like the veg. I want to do a large amount, two big bags. Just looking for tips really - bowl or plate? Should I add butter at the beginning? Can I bung it in and leave it or does it need a mid-way stir? Etc.

Thank you!

Get the frozen stuff it microwaves better IME

For 1 large bag, I open it and toss it into a colander, sitting in the sink. Gently pour over an entire kettle of just boiled water and let it drain through. Perfectly wilted spinach without going near timing anything at the last minute, and because in the colander, I can squeeze it using a serving spoon or the potato masher to get any excess liquid out before serving.

Oh Biddy that's a great idea!

queenie doesn't the frozen stuff release unholy amounts of water?

I recently noticed on the back of a bag of baby spinach (from Asda I think) that it could be microwaved in the bag - punctured the bag and cooked for a minute I think - came out perfectly - just drained excess liquid from the corner of the bag! Can't believe I hadn't tried it before as it was so little faff. BiddyPops method works well too if you don't want to microwave in plastic.

I microwave the big bags - stab them a few times and microwave for 3.5 mins then transfer to a colander and press out excess liquid.
