worried that if I don't give her milk this evening before bed, that she'll wake in night hungry as only had two mouthfulls of food for dinner. Or should I give her a crumpet or toast which I know she'll eat??

Why are you cutting out her night time milk, any reason?

ds has just turned two and still has his milk of an evening, he really enjoys it so I still give it him

couple of reasons, firstly she often doesn't eat a lot, and I thought it may be worth seeing if she ate more if she took less milk. Secondly, she has an upset tummy atm, and has been having soya milk for a week or so, and since I'm not madly keen on soya milk, thought now would be a good time to cut down.
Thing is, I don't think she'd really miss her evening milk, unless she's hungry.

Well if you don't think she will miss it, just try her tonight and see how it goes. What times does she have her other milk?

I stopped ds's morning bottle of milk at about 19 months, he just has milk on his cereal, then he has normal food for lunch and tea and a bottle for bed.

If you really are worried about her waking in the night it can't hurt offering her some toast

I would agree with you there. Cut out the day milk. My dd 22mths hasnt had milk since she was 18mths and she didnt miss it one bit. Good luck

MrsFish · 11/06/2007 19:19

I would definitely cut out the one between lunch and dinner, this is most probably why she is not ready to eat

Scree · 11/06/2007 20:01

Yes, thanks, that makes much more sense! What do you give then when they get hungry between 2 and 3? She's usually hungry because she hasn't eaten much.

My ds likes fruit, so he'll have an orange or a banana or some grapes, even a biscuit or two which seems to keep him going.

He has breakfast at about 8am, lunch at 12ish and tea at 4.30ish, and his bedtime milk at 7pm ish, bed at 7.30 interspersed with some snacks, each day is different though depending on how much he eats at mealtimes. If he refuses his lunch which he is prone to do, he will have nothing then until tea, and he will then eat a decent amount
