Won't Drink

My 13mth old just doesn't drink much. He will have the odd sip of water during the day but he can't be taking down much more than two or three ounces. We've tried juices but it's the same story. Anyone had the same problem?

Haven't had the same problem but I would imagine it is difficult trying to force the issue. I'd just make sure that he was eating plenty of juicy fruit and veg to make sure that he is still getting plenty of liquid/naturally occuring water.

I have 2 DDs and DD1 has always drunk far less than DD2. She can go hours without asking for a drink, but as Roobie says, she eats really well and will happily munch fruit. I always put a drink out for her but she rarely has more than a sip.

In hot weather however, I always plie her with lollies as on one ocassion she did get dehydrated - woke her one morning after a particularly hot day the day before when she spent most of the day running in and out of the paddling pool and she was really dreamy and floppy - frightened the whatsits out of me till I realised what it must be...

Yes - neither of my two were great drinkers and it seems that no3 isn't either, which used to worry me a bit, but ds1 is 6, dd is 4 and both drink now to their thirst and are perfectly healthy. I would try not to worry about it as he's probably getting what he needs.

We're having the same problem with my 12 mo DS right now. He was drinking about 24 or so ounces a day, but now is drinking far less. We are trying to wean him off formula, and that is all he wants to drink. The Dr. said that when they are thirsty, they will drink and we can't force him to. That doesn't make me feel any better, though. Will be watching this with interest.c

Yes, same thing with our DS with the formula. He'll tend to drink the formula but not much else and we're trying to wean him off of it.

I'll go off Roobie's suggestion and give him loads of juicy fruits as he really likes those.
