Slow Cooker Recipes

I keep reading about slow cookers on here and how amazing and life changing they are, I've never had one but am tempted with us both working full time and having a toddler.

What are your recommendations for the best recipes?

Can you prep a weeks worth of meals on say a Sunday for dropping into one each weekday morning?

Is there anything i shouldn't do with it? (Dishwasher etc)

You could possibly prep everything on a Sunday but I haven't done that before.

Say for instance you chopped your chicken and veg - they'd be ok for as long as the chicken packet said it would be ok for 🤷🏻‍♀️

Sausage casserole: brown an onion and some celery in a pan, add paprika, thyme, garlic powder cook off and put into slow cooker. Brown sausages then into slow cooker. Add tomato paste to pan and scrape up bits then a tin of tomatoes then add all that to pan with stick of rosemary and beef stock cube. 8 hours on low.

You can usually take the pot out of the slow cooker easily and that can be out in the dishwasher.

It won't brown meat so you should do that before - chicken isn't so much of a concern there though I suppose. Depends on preference.

And it doesn't reduce sauces so be prepared to thicken it or put it in quite thick.

Ham joint is done nicely in a slow cooker. I literally plop it in on low and leave it from morning til tea time.

Casseroles - whatever your usually recipe is you could do that then pour into slow cooker and set it to low. Bear in mind the not reducing sauces rule.

Enjoy x

I love loads of stuff done in the slow cooker... if you google 'dump bags' they will show you how to prep different meals to 'dump' in the slow cooker

Ooh I didn't know about them I'm gonna have a look @WooYa

thanks for the tips, those 'dump bags' look fab - maybe not for all week but one or 2 nights made easier that way!

Another tip.... you can get slow cooker liners so you don't have to spend forever cleaning them Halo dump bags are really handy to have in the freezer, I get one out the night before then chuck it in before work. (also I'm lazy so I don't brown my meat Grin)

If you use non slow cooker recipes only use 1/3 of the liquid stated.

Easiest thing to cook, a joint of meat or a chicken, just stick it in the cooker, tern on and leave for 6-10 hours.
