One of the many reasons I love Aldi, is the fact they've not gone down the self serve checkout route like most of not all of the others have.
My local store in Bournemouth is so friendly. They always have a laugh and a joke with us. It only occurred to me the other day that they are indeed the only big supermarket who don't use the dreaded self service.
I hate hate hate using self service. They're impersonal, something always goes wrong (for me anyway!) And I just feel like the only reason for the self service, is to maximise profits while employing less people, which I'm against. Supermarkets are often the heart of a community. They employ local people and provide a valuable service. I suffer with PTSD and getting out is sometimes incredibly difficult and scary. You'd think I would prefer the automated tills. But when I see the same smiling faces greet me and my fellow shoppers, laughing and chatting and taking an interest in us, it lifts me up. I feel safe and valued.
I once had a breakdown in Asda following a recent miscarriage as it was near mother's day which happened to be also my birthday. I collapsed on the floor in tears and not one member of staff approached me. Not one. I know 100% if I had been in Aldi, I would have been taken care of because they know who I am and would have shown real concern.
Don't get me started on the amazing food!
Don't know if you can hear me Aldi, but thank you!
