Just that really - fed up with taking meringue and fruit every time! All suggestions welcome...

Chocolate marmalade cake

Chocolate mousse
Lemon posset (SO easy)
Brownies made with ground almonds rather than flour (which also makes them extra squishy and delicious)

Make raspberry coulis (using frozen raspberries) and serve with good quality ice cream

Make Delia Smith's butterscotch sauce (keeps in the fridge for weeks) and serve with ice cream.

Sorbet-easy to make yourself.
We eat a lot of jelly with fruit set in it but done in individual martini style dessert glasses. Children think it's fancy!

Rice pudding.

Word of warning about brownies if you're taking it for someone else that is gluten free - everyone I know who is a coeliac (and I know quite a few - it runs in the family!) is truly bored of brownies as it's often the only option for them in a cafe.

Cheese cake made with gluten free biscuit base is a good option. Crumbles are easy to make gluten free too - ground almonds work well

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 15/08/2018 20:19

Almond cake - 6 eggs, 300g ground almonds, 300g caster sugar. Separate eggs, whisk whites to stiff peaks. Mix sugar, yolks and almonds. Fold egg whites into almond mix one spoon at a time. Bake for 35-40 mins at 150 C. I also like it with the zest and juice of an orange mixed in. Serve with whipped cream and raspberries. This makes a massive cake but you can divide by eggs and the relation of eggs to grams makes it easy to do.

I usually have strawberries and cream at this time of year when the strawberries are good

CountFosco · 15/08/2018 20:29

I have a relative who has had Coeliac's disease for 30 years so as a family we're pretty expert at catering for it.
Pavlova or Eton Mess (meringue and fruit I know!)
Jelly and icecream
Banana custard
Boozy fruit salad
Flourless chocolate cake
Orange and Almond cake
Creme brûlée
Creme Caramel
Chocolate Mousse
(Gluten free) biscuits and cheese
If you get gluten free oats you could make oat biscuits
So many choices!

Have to agree with sleeping about the brownies.

It's always presented (both in restaurants and by home cooks) as 'look what we made specially for you gluten free people' and you smile and say how wonderful but inwardly you are groaning about having to eat another fecking brownie.

pastabest · 15/08/2018 20:33

The schars cream crackers are pretty good if you go down the cheese and biscuits route.

BigBlueBubble · 15/08/2018 20:34

Mary Berry’s chocolate roulade!

BayTrees · 15/08/2018 20:41

Cut banana through skin down to skin at bottom - leave this intact. Stuff chocolate into the split. Wrap in foil, you can lift it slightly off the top so chocolate isn't wasted by being stuck to the foil if you are feeling fancy. Stick in oven for 5 to 10 minutes around 180 degrees c. Take out, unwrap and eat. This can also be cooked over a barbecue. So easy and tastes great.
1 banana per person. I keep meaning to try this with flavoured chocolate.
