why do you need to freeze them filly? i have several veggie sarnies i love, but i've never tried to freeze them so i would not wish to suggest these.

fillyjonk · 03/06/2007 10:33

so i can whip them out of the freezer rather than faffing around in the morning

Hmm. Is this part of your being more organised in the mornings regime? I picked up a few tips from that thread but am not sure I'd stoop to frozen sandwiches. Sorry.

Doesn't the bread go soggy as it defrosts?

MissGolightly · 03/06/2007 10:36

Do you think Mayo woudl freeze? i would have thought it would separate but admit I've never tried.

Cheese would be fine - anything like cheddar and pickle, lancashire and red onion etc etc.

Smoked salmon with or without cream cheese.

Maybe houmous...? Have never tried freezing it but I can't imagine it would hurt, it's only chickpeas after all. I love houmous with those aubergines in oil you get in turkish shops. THey would freeze fine.

I don't like frozen sandwiches but what you can do is make up the fillings and keep them in the fridge for a couple of days.

fillyjonk · 03/06/2007 10:38

oh god i thought this is what organised parents DID

aaargh

ok what sandwiches are quick? am not grating carrots at 6 am

or can i make them up the day before, will that work?

kittypants · 03/06/2007 10:39

cant you just make them up night before and put in fridge?
no ideas about freezing sandwhiches as im lazy and am still making them whilst running out of house

nachomama · 03/06/2007 10:40

maybe you could make up a few fixin's the night before, put in a tupperware whotsit in the fridge, and have the bread cut (and buttered) also? i've just gone back to work (very PT) and I do this and throw it all in a bag in the morning, and make the sandwiches at lunch in the staffroom. (i always hated soggy sarnies anyway). is it for you or LO? (if for DP tell him to get his finger out and make his own bloody lunch).

Carmenere · 03/06/2007 10:41

On a sunday grate cheese and keep it in a tub for the week. Make up a tuna and mayo combo and ditto re the tubs, you could do the same with chicken and mayo or egg mayo. Obviously they won't last all week but will last a couple of days. Then in the morning shove a couple of spoonfuls onto a slice of bread, in a wrap, pitta ect, add a bit of lettuce and there you go.

nachomama · 03/06/2007 10:42

BTW, the apostrophe in "fixin's" was to replace the g. Sorry, pedant in me can't help it.

suzywong · 03/06/2007 10:47

I think this maybe my all time favourite thread title
certainly top 5

Cracking

MissGolightly · 03/06/2007 10:47

Sandwiches made up the night before are fine providing you don't put anything too wet or salad-y in. Anything in the nature of tomato makes the bread go soggy, and lettuce doesn't survive the night well.

Or else forgo sandwiches and send a little tub of houmous and olives with a handful of pitta breads.

bumperlicious · 03/06/2007 11:00

Should I feel a sense of deja vu here?

PersephonePlease · 03/06/2007 11:04

LOL!!!!!!!

DO NOT FREEZE!!!! YUK!!

Make sure your bread has defrosted.

Make up tuna mayo

Make up egg mayo

Hummus
Taramasalata
Guacamole

Even slice all your veggies ready for the morning. If the filling is wet you wont need butter.

Make a cup of tea, slap on filling and veg, press down bread, slice it and into clingfilm.

DONE!! (as Gordon Ramsay would say)

fillyjonk · 03/06/2007 14:50

lol i KNOW its boring, has it been done in my absence or summat?

bananabump · 03/06/2007 14:57

I love this sandwich filling from slimming world, looks a bit ming but honestly it's SO nice:

Spicy Mexican spread

Serves: 1
Total Syns: Free on Green, 16 Syns on Original

Mash 200g kidney beans with 2 tbsp very low fat natural fromage frais and half a tsp mild chilli powder. Mix in half a 100g can of sweetcorn, half a finely chopped red pepper and 1 finely chopped spring onion.

nachomama · 03/06/2007 21:29

So one of my fave all time sarnies is cream cheese and olive but TBH bit of a fag to slice the olives. Also I like fakin bacon and peanut butter. The Redwood brand has nice soft rashers, and I think Quorn does too, if you eat quorn. Mini baguettes with cheddar and sun-dried tomato paste make for a scrummy lunch. One of my favourite lazy sandwiches is the dolmade variety. Put on bread your choice spread (marge, mayo, whatever), open a jar or can of dolmades (rice stuffed vine leaves), smosh a few down on a slice, if a few seconds to spare- slap a few bits of salad on, other slice on top and presto. What I favour at the moment is a salad, which can be made super-quick with DS on hip: prepared salad goes flying in tupperware box, as do a few bits of antipasti from deli- the olive oil it sits in provides the dressing, a sprinkling of walnuts and seeds, and if DS has not eaten his salmon from day before, in goes the remainder. If not, marinated tofu pieces if I have any. The mad dash back and forth to the car mix the contents of the salad quite well ready for my lunch.
