Quorn Chicken

Hi, can anyone help me cooking for my vegetarian friend please?
She has told me quite happy with quorn chicken so I've got some and and now looking for ideas what to make.
Think 'a normal meal time' not 'a fancy dinner party' as I'm no great chef even with dishes I'm familiar with Blush

Do you mean the frozen Quorn 'chicken' pieces? If so, I'm a vegetarian and eat these.

I use the pieces in fajitas. I fry mushrooms, peppers, onion and garlic and I fry the Quorn separately. And then I put it into a bigger pan with 2/3 tins of chopped tomatoes and put a little bit of paprika in. And simmer it for a while. The mixture can then go in tortilla wraps with some grated cheese. You can serve it with rice/nachos too.

Or you could use the Quorn in a simple pasta sauce: tinned tomatoes and the veg I mentioned above.

If it's the Quorn fillets you've bought, you can still fry them in the same way as the pieces. And chop them up into smaller pieces.

Hope that helps.

Sorry, yes (didn't realise there were different options Grin) - the quorn 'chicken' pieces.

thank you
I particularly like recipes with things I've already got in the house Grin

Does it cook quicker than meat? I think (its in the freezer now) it said 10 mins or something....

Would it all fall apart if I went for more of a casserole - y type dish which I then cooked for longer?

No it tends to hold well, i think it’s best in recipes with strong flavours, curries are ideal.

I use it in most 'saucy' things that normal chicken would go in.

I do a lovely Thai green curry with them, and loads of veg.

Not sure whether it cooks quicker than meat. It would take around 15-20 mins if you fried it on its own.

It wouldn't fall apart in a casserole. I would fry it first though before mixing it in to make sure it's cooked.

I treat it exactly the same as I would chicken, because it holds no strong taste of its own it does best in sauces with plenty of flavour, curries, stir fry's, casseroles and fajitas are our favourites for the quorn pieces.

You shouldn't treat it exactly like meat - it's best to fry it till slightly browned and then don't boil it in a sauce for an extended period - better to have the sauce ready and combine with only a couple of minutes to stir together.

I always put it in a microwavable dish, cover with water and microwave for about 5 mins before putting it in anything. I think that might be just because I'm too lazy to wait for it to cook through though. That is only if you have the frozen, not the chilled though.

My guilty pleasure is the Quorn southern fried style nuggets in a fajita...so good!!
