I was going to make this tonight but got home late and so didn't have time. I'd like to prepare as much of it as possible now ready for tomorrow. Do you think i could get away with roasting the veg tonight and making the crumble mixture and then leaving them in the fridge overnight and just make the sauce tomorrow?

TIA

Actually tbh I used to make mini toad in the holes in a muffin tin - much much better and very popular. Will post recipe if anyone wants it later.

Another advocate for The Dinner Lady book. It's great. Not had a duff recipe yet.

I think I am the only one, but I don't find it as startling as I thought I would.

Lots of recipes with cheese ( DD2 is allergic to dairy).

Enid · 03/06/2007 19:18

Yes the cheese ones are a bummer for us as dd1 hates dairy, not allergic she just doenst like cheese sauce or milky things (except hot chocolate )

Funny, I got this book for christmas 18 months ago and i don't think i've made anythng from it

keep looking at it and not being very inspired...

Hulababy · 03/06/2007 19:21

I don't think they are supposed to be inspiring or startling recipes though. Just normal every day, simple meals suitable for children and adults alike. Love the fact that all the recipes have no added salt too.

tassis · 03/06/2007 19:23

that could be the thing, Hula...i tend to look at books for fancy recipes not the ordinary stuff. for everyday stuff i have the "bung it in and see how it tastes" attitude!

I made the apple cake this morning (but without the icing) and it was scrumptious.

Might actually buy my own copy instead of repeatedly borrowing this one from the library.

Tuna bake tonight.

I'm going Dinner Lady Crazy. How sad am I.

MrsCurly · 03/06/2007 19:47

That said I have two complaints about the book.

  1. I wish she would use teaspoons, tablespoons etc for small amounts. I can kind of wing it but it would be much easier on the brain.

  2. She uses lots of extra pans and if you follow to the letter you can make a lot of washing up for yourself.

When it says oats - is that the same as porridge oats. Sorry if I'm being dim.

mckenzie · 04/06/2007 09:07

yes, porridge oats/rolled oats.
