Whole fat products help

Not sure whether i'm best here or in SN.

DS has just started a medicine 3 times a day which he has to take with something whole fat. Eg glass of mild, yoghurt, custard pot etc. So far so good as we haven't been out and about much.

But i could do with something a bit portable (like in a pouch) that doesnt need refrigeration or a spoon. The custard pots are ok but a bit of a pain transportation wise especially if im out over multiple dosages and days.

Of course i could be looking for something that doesn't exist, but if anyone knows of anything it would be greatly appreciated.

Does he have to swallow with the product? Does it get mixed in? Could cheese work, depending o how it’s taken?

IsTheRainEverComingBack · 24/07/2018 09:01

Sorry that’s the longest link in the world - google refillable food pouches

catsofa · 24/07/2018 09:10

Peanut butter? Don't know if you can get sachets anywhere but it doesn't go off very fast so would be easy enough to carry portions around in Tupperware for a whole day.

pastabest · 24/07/2018 09:11

Aldi definitely had children's yoghurt pouches on the shelf last time I was in there

Yokatsu · 24/07/2018 09:12

Would i still hit the problem of refrigeration with the pouches?

Has to be taken alongside. Amazingly he's learnt to swallow to capsule as we were losing a not insignificant amount cutting it open (proud mum moment as its not easy to swallow)

Regarding cheese I really dont know. Ive tried googling but its hard enough finding information about the medicine (actually a concerntrated vitamin) relevent to DS condition (which is rare). Its taken for infertility (!!!) But no mention of take with whole fats for that. There was so much to take in at the appointment i didnt think to ask and the Dr whilst lovely is kinda high up so id like to see if theres something simple im missing first.

No the Aldi pouches are just on the shelf next to the other weaning/toddler snacks.

I used to buy them for DD when she was weaning (she really liked the blueberry one). I assume they are UHT in some way.

@pastabest that sounds the kind of thing im after.

@catsofa thank you but needs to be milk based.

Nutella? I think nutella comes in portion packs.

Oatly is nice, its a milk substitute available in 250ml cartons, usually in health food shops I don't know if supermarkets do it too. You could tip one of those into a bottle, add nutella or peanut butter for the fat and shake it up to make a lovely milkshake.

catsofa · 24/07/2018 09:23

Ah sorry crossed post, oatly no good then. Asda do 500ml cartons of uht whole milk, if that's any use.

NannyR · 24/07/2018 09:25

You can buy individual cartons of uht milk, plain and chocolate. They would be ok not being refrigerated. You can freeze frubes (and other tube yoghurts/fromage frais) so they are like an ice pop. I do this when we go for a day out and they are fine unrefrigerated all day (they are not frozen by the end of the day but still fine to eat).

Yokatsu · 24/07/2018 09:40

@catsofa no you have been a big help you and @NannyR have led me to happy monkey individual carton of milkshakes...only they are skimmed milk Confused

Anyone idea of a brand that do similar but not skimmed.

The frozen frube will be good heading off from home. Trying to cover an upcoming hotel based holiday if i could have something in reserve i would be much happier.

You could keep it in a little insulated lunchbag with an ice pack.

Blondie1984 · 24/07/2018 16:52

Not sure how old you DS is or how well this would go down but the majority of baby products that contain dairy contain the full fat variety - so maybe something like one of these Ella yoghurt pouches?

jellomello · 24/07/2018 17:04

Ella's kitchen do non-refrigerated yoghurt pouches. Refrigerate after opening.

Yokatsu · 25/07/2018 06:08

So... mostly finding how few things are made with whole fat milk.

Ella's kitchen the only one that is is the baby brekkie. Im getting one to see how well it goes down with DS.

Frubes are back off as they are not made with Whole milk.

Now wondering whether i can take out a thermos of whole milk.... not so good on holiday though

BikeRunSki · 25/07/2018 06:20

Get a thermos or Chilly Bottle and buy a pint of fresh milk every day to put in it. I am sure your hotel could help you with getting fresh milk once a day.

Yokatsu · 25/07/2018 09:18

Thats almost exactly what im thinking. Its not quite perfect for those days you just want to sling something from the cupboard in your bag and go, but im starting to think its the best option. i wonder how cool liquids in those bottles stay.

@pastabest thank you, we seem to have a hit. From the fat content aldi's yoghurt pouches do seem to be whole fat. Ive got the mango as it was the only one left, the strawberry was properly raided, is that because the strawberry is much nicer by comparison?
