Where can I buy dried beans that are not grown in China?

I’ve realised that my dried beans from Waitrose (haricot, borlotti) are grown in China. Those from organic suppliers seem to be the same - ‘essential organic’ etc. The haricots are also very small. Does anyone have a source for European dried beans? I’ve had some ‘mogette’ ones from Riverford once that were amazing but they are not generally stocked.

What is wrong with Chinese grown beans?

Ofthread · 22/07/2018 18:07

Nothing necessarily wrong with them but:

  1. Didn’t realise we imported such basic food stuff such a long distance
  2. They can’t be great quality considering the cheap Waitrose price and the distance they’ve been shipped/cost of shipping
  3. I try to eat local-ish, avoid beans from Kenya etc.
  4. The quality was just ok, nothing special
  5. Italian supermarkets are full of amazing dried beans, perhaps there’s not enough for export but that’s the kind of thing I want
