How do I know if my brown rice is cooked?

I usually eat white rice, which I do 1 cup to 2 cups of water, bring to the boil, wait until water has evaporated, turn off the heat and then cover with a lid for 10 minutes before serving.

I've done exactly the same with brown rice, except this time it has a different texture. I wouldn't say it is crunchy, but it has more of a bite. Is this done?

Hi,
No, it's not cooked. Brown rice takes longer to cook than white. If it's crunchy it's not cooked.
I bang it in the rice cooker and it sorts itself out. If it's on the stove top, I leave it an extra 5 mins boing/simmering and then leave covered 'til serving.

I don’t know if this is the approved method, but i always eat brown rice (love the taste compared to white)

  1. 1 cup rice to 2 cups water (i usually put a bit more water actually)
  2. bring to boil, then stir and reduce to simmer (with or without lid on)
  3. leave about 25 mins until all water has evaporated. Try to catch it just as the water disappears, before the rice starts catching.
  4. Omnomnomnom Smile

Forgot to say it does have more chewy-ness than white (think wholemeal crusty bread compared to sliced white), but not crunchy.
