Can you have a halloumi stirfry or is this a crime against nature?

Just looked in the fridge. I have no chicken for a stirfry but I have a packet of veg and fresh noodles which need to be used today. I have a packet of halloumi. Can I use this or do I have to head to the shop? The shop is pretty far away. (And I'm lazy)

Its fusion cooking. Just be careful what sauce you put with it.

Eatsleepworkrepeat · 11/07/2018 14:26

Veg and noodles would be a vegetable chow mein, perfectly acceptable on its own! I think I'd cook the halloumi in a separate pan to have on the side, just in case it makes a rank combination.

Any sauce suggestions? Something sweet to offset the saltiness maybe? Cooking it separately seems like a good precaution.

Sweet chilli sauce would compliment it beautifully

blackbirdbluebottle · 11/07/2018 14:33

It's not a crime, it sounds delicious go for it!

JeffJarrett · 11/07/2018 14:35

I added Halloumi to satay veg skewers with sticky rice last week and it was amazing.

LiquoricePickle · 11/07/2018 14:36

Yum.

NicoAndTheNiners · 11/07/2018 14:37

Sounds lovely.

headinhands · 11/07/2018 14:43

Yeah I would roast it first then cut into cubes?

headinhands · 11/07/2018 14:43

I bloody love halloumi!

cdtaylornats · 11/07/2018 18:49

If you google "Halloumi stir fry" you'll find a load of recipes

caoraich · 11/07/2018 19:14

I'm veggie, I do this all the time! Sometimes with a 50/50 mix of halloumi and falafel balls

It's nice with sweet chilli and also lime and ginger sauces

Sickoffamilydrama · 11/07/2018 19:20

I make a halloumi curry it's amazing. I do the curry with root vegetables, cook the halloumi then stir in at the last minute.

NicoAndTheNiners · 11/07/2018 19:26

Pls can I have that curry recipe. Dd is newly vegi and so fussy!

Sickoffamilydrama · 11/07/2018 20:11

Nico I kind of make it up as to what I have but the basics is fry onion's, cumin and couple of TBS of curry powder ( more or less if you don't like it spicy) then add chopped veg and stir then straight away add a tin of chopped tomatoes and a tin of coconut milk ( full fat coconut milk tastes way better) sometimes if it looks dry at the beginning I add some water then simmer until veg is cooked and sauce is reduced and thick. I fry the halloumi separately usually cut it in big strips and then stir in at the end and serve.

NicoAndTheNiners · 11/07/2018 20:16

Thanks....what sort of veg would you recommend? Anything you like?

DailyMailDontStealMyThread · 11/07/2018 20:21

Nico what about this recipe?

DailyMailDontStealMyThread · 11/07/2018 20:24

In fact, most of that websites recipes are veggie and sound amazing.

NicoAndTheNiners · 11/07/2018 20:55

I can't stand aubergines. Grin but will check the rest of the website out, Thanks.

MotherWol · 12/07/2018 16:09

@NicoAndTheNiners this Rick Stein recipe is great with halloumi instead of paneer. Adjust the levels of chili to suit your tastes.

NicoAndTheNiners · 12/07/2018 16:11

That looks nice @motherwol will try that next week. Thanks.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 12/07/2018 16:15

Thanks - that's our dinner sorted for tonight! I have fresh pasta and I have halloumi (which will be griddled). Yum
