Oysters - can I give them to my 2 year old?

She loves all seafood including other shellfish like mussels. I'm half way through a delicious plate of fresh mussels and was wondering if it would be ok to give her some.
She's 3 in September.

don't see why not. She might vom though so be prepared!! My ds was about 8 when he first tried them at a food fair type thing and I cut them into smaller pieces (they were big oysters!) so he could slip them down more easily!

Would have thought mussels and oysters would both be fine if there's any left!

I wasn't sure with them being raw.
oxocube: I thought it would be best to get in early as my teenage daughter won't try anything like this at all.

tchocklat, go for it! Why not, although you could be giving your daughter expensive tastes for the future. Imagine her first date - no happy hour pizza or pasta - I'll take the oysters darling . Actually, I love it when kids try anything and it seems to be best to catch 'em young!

They are a high risk food from the point of view of food poisoning. Small children are more at risk from food poisoning and can be made seriously ill. Personally I wouldn't give raw shellfish to a child under 6.
