Veggie at a non veggie BBQ

At a BBQ, what could someone prepare to make you feel like you were being catered for, as opposed to an after thought, that’ll do kind of thing?

have you got a cast iron pan / griddle?? We use ours on the bbq to avoid cross contamination but then at least everything is cooking in one area

AsAProfessionalFekko · 09/07/2018 18:37

Disposal ones are great as they can't have any cross meatificafion.

I hold a big family BBQ every year, 20 people of which 2 are veggie. I always 'over-cater' for the veggies because everyone else seems to want it too!

I do: Stuffed peppers (golden vegetable rice, kidney beans, feta cheese and onions),
Large flat mushrooms coated in garlic soft cheese and coated in seasoned breadcrumbs.
Halloumi, pepper, onion, mushroom and cherry tomato skewers (in a sweet chilli marinade)
I do 10 of everything and make sure the veggies are first up.

Sides for everyone are:
Large green salad
Beefsteak or Spanish tomatoes in a garlic and pepper vinagerette.
New potatoes with watercress and red onion
Homemade coleslaw

If I have more than 20 (it's happened twice) I also do:
Pasta salad with peppers and onions
Mixed bean salad
Moroccan Couscous
Mini jacket potatoes with sour cream and chives.

Crikey Eve how do I get an invite? That sounds gorgeous!

Most of what I do has been mentioned but whole veggies on there really works large mushrooms (mentioned), but also halve a courgette, pepper, aubergine and do straight on the BBQ too - taste lovely Smile

SmileMarriage.
(depending on your preference I have one single adult niece and two single adult nephews Wink)
This year it's a big one because 2 siblings are bringing their in-laws as well and my mum wants my Aunty and uncle there.

TheSassyAssassin · 09/07/2018 19:20

Single...and bagsy one of the nephews! Wink Am sure you won't even notice one extra! Grin

I did marinated halloumi skewers for a barbecue recently and even the meat eaters loved them! They cooked them first while the coals were getting hot enough for the meat.

Raven88 · 09/07/2018 19:22

Veggie sausages/burgers or some grilled fruit.

DoubleHelix79 · 09/07/2018 19:25

Try removing the stems from a few chestnut mushrooms, then putting a little bit of garlic and some soy sauce into the cavity. Wrap them in aluminium foil and put them on the grill for a little but. It's super simple but incredibly delicious. I always get mine nicked by the meat eaters...

LemonJ · 09/07/2018 19:29

I have to bring my own food to all family events so even the thought that someone has thought of you is nice, just a veggie burger or a couple of sausages is fine and happy if done in oven as don't really want on same bbq.

Nydj · 09/07/2018 19:36

If you get precooked falafel like cauldron or even better, Sainsburys own brand then you can just wrap them in foil and pop them on the bbq to heat through.

myheartgoesout · 09/07/2018 19:48

I think they have technically been invited to lunch rather than a BBQ, so I could get away with oven cooking.
I think I'm edging towards to stuffing some Romano peppers with fried onions, feta, preserved lemon, pine nuts and mint...I'll bake it in the oven, I've made it before and it went down a storm. Thanks everyone

Sounds marvellous

S0upertrooper · 09/07/2018 20:25

Haloumi and roasted pepper wrap with salad. OP, when and where is the BBQ? Sounds delicious!

FoodologistGirl · 10/07/2018 23:45

I have a halloumi burger recipe on my blog EatNotSpend here eatnotspend.wordpress.com/4th-of-july/ it’s perfect for vegetarians

Halloumi skewers may feel like an afterthought at a meat heavy bbq with just green salad - but at your middle east inspired feast I think they would be great. But your stuffed romano peppers sound even better!
