do you cut them up and put them straight in or do you boil them on their own first?

never cooked them before!!

i believe you about the muffins, it's the same principle as carrot cake etc.
i think my point partly comes from never having pureed anything for dd as i did blw with her, so she just had hunks of veg from the beginning. she recognises the veg and likes it, so i've not (yet) had to get my head round worrying about extra vits.
there are some veg that she tastes and doesn't like (avocado gets a firm no and always has) but at least she can identify them as i'm not sneaking them into anything.
avocado, by the way, is probably a bad example, but it's one of the few things that she consistently dislikes. tbh i wonder if conservative children are actually suspicious of food? my friend's wee boy is very sus of food, rightly so as he has allergies.
but in a way that's why i think it's best to be upfront from the begninning, rather than 'sneaking' veg in to otherwise tasty recipes. of course, dd is only 17 months old so we may have all this to come...

Aitch I tried blw with ds and he didn'teat anything much (aside from near constant bf) till past 1 and he still only likes a small range of foods lumps aren't a problem he likes brazil nuts!? but he is huge and v healthy so I have stopped worrying about it (a bit). He is 3 in aug my dd is 1 and she eats veggies anyway you want to offer them and is also huge and healthy - I used to believe in nurture over nature now I am halfway to believing babies spring out as fully-formed characters!! whattayagonnado...

I hadn't a clue about blw when my two were little. I actually followed religiously the very boring guidelines of Italian paediatricians, which mainly consisted in chucking tapioca in vegetable stock, add the vegetables, grate parmesan and always a teasppon of extra vergin olive oil. Both are in fact still happy to eat soups (provided there's pasta). But ds is far more adventorous with vegetables than dd. Anyway, they are both quite easy to feed, therefore now, I cook whatefver i want and if there's something they don't like they can put it aside.

i've got to say that italian baby food sounds really lovely. i'm really hoping that dd continues to like veggies as i'd much rather eat a veggie stir-fry than have to muck up my tried and tested recipes with grated carrot, that's all. (although i can confirm that grated carrot, hummous and sultanas is a fvourite sandwich filling round here...)
i was wondering about brazil nuts, they're a huge favourite of mine so i'm off to buy some and let dd have some this afternoon, so thanks for the tip.

yum, i am so cooking courgettes with garlic/cumin/mint/feta tonight (not for the dc, they're going to wagamama to wolf noodles ).

francagoestohollywood · 25/05/2007 13:20

maybe... but it involved the use of a spoon . Have to say that I'm not sure we'll have a 3rd child, but the "discovery" of blw is like a bit of fresh air

(i know, it's really the laziness that appeals to me with BLW).

francagoestohollywood · 25/05/2007 17:37

(obviously !)

hoxtonchick · 25/05/2007 20:43

have just had fabulous supper of previously fried courgettes with garlic, grilled hallloumi cheese, mint, cherry tomatoes, toasted pine nuts & pomegranate molasses. accompanied by flat bread. in case anyone is interested .

francagoestohollywood · 25/05/2007 20:52

we had courgettes tonight too !

mmmm, but if you'd grated some carrot and flicked some cauliflower in there you'd have got more vitamins in... although you'd probably have eaten less of it.
