Jelly making - potential daft question alert

Hi all,

I'm about to make some redcurrant jelly for the first time (I have a bush in the garden that's given a very good yield). The recipe says to use a jelly bag, which I don't have, or a muslin. Can I just use a baby muslin, or are these too thick/unsuitable?

Thanks (and sorry for being dim).

Baby muslins work fine - that’s what I tend to use.

Jealous of your redcurrants, though. We admitted defeat with the bush we planted after the sawflies got to them every single year...

Baby ones will work, artificial fibres are actually better as they don't absorb so much of the liquid, so if you have any net curtain material with no holes in it or even the foot part of a pair of tights or stockings then use those :).

BTW redcurrant jelly in a pancake with bacon and brie is devine!

Both great answers, thank you!
