Nicest and most transportable (not forgetting easy) sensory buffet food?

End of year school thing - about 240 adults and children.

I'm on savoury. Only have to produce on item happily enough.

Are cheese sandwiches too yawnsome? Is there something equally simple?

Erm, that'd be savory rather than sensory.

Cheese sandwiches are naff.

NorthEndGal · 14/06/2018 19:03

Hand pies? Or quiche tarts?

ClickHip · 14/06/2018 19:05

Falafel

bluechameleon · 14/06/2018 19:06

Sandwiches don't tend to get eaten IME. Cocktail sausages cooked in sweet chilli sauce or honey and grainy mustard have gone down well when I've taken them to work buffets. Or sausage rolls or cheese straws are very easy with shop bought pastry.

AdaColeman · 14/06/2018 19:08

Sausage rolls

Falafel & tzadziki (in a sealed tub)

Cubes of frittata

Squares of pizza

Crisps. You just buy them. Job done.

Unihorn · 14/06/2018 19:16

Came here to see what sensory buffet food was and an quite disappointed Grin

StripySocksAndDocs · 14/06/2018 19:30

Sorry about that Unihorn!

Crisps have already been claimed sadly. It's a shame cheese sandwiches are naff, they so simple (but are naff).

sausage rolls
quesadilla

AsAProfessionalFekko · 14/06/2018 19:41

Scotch eggs! How many do you need to supply though - I once offered to make 100 scotch eggs and wouldn't recommend it.

Amber0685 · 14/06/2018 19:52

Quiche, charcuterie, pork pies

AdaColeman · 14/06/2018 20:36

Well I knew straight away that a sensory buffet was food to lick and squeeze, with lots of drizzled honey, vibrant herb flavours, dripping sauce to dip things in, tempura oysters, things to peel, and probably quite a lot of aubergines. Grin

Cheese and pineapple on sticks? Popular with children too and your kids can help make them.

TheHonGalahadThreepwood · 19/06/2018 14:57

Sandwiches are not "naff" (!) but will go dry. I usually do tabouleh. Or sometimes quiche.

Stephisaur · 19/06/2018 15:01

I would love cheese sandwiches!

Other than that, cheese & pineapple on a stick or falafel as others have suggested :)

MrsJayy · 19/06/2018 15:02

Cheese mayo wraps not a sandwich but a sandwich Grin you could go wild and put a bit of spring onion in them.

fanominon · 19/06/2018 15:05

Large puff pasty tarts cut into little squares (something like this: www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/2545/cheese-tomato-and-pesto-tart)? Quicker than sarnis I'd say. Or cocktail sausages. Or carrot and cucumber sticks and dips (OK, that one might would be the less popular with the kids)

StripySocksAndDocs · 19/06/2018 16:01

I'd considered doing that MrsJayy, spring onions and all. Evidently living on the wild side. Grin

Personally I'm a big fan of cheese sandwiches. But they do seem a naff offering when you're supposed to be creating something for a party.

I'm liking the idea of cheese and pineapple!! Very retro. Trying to recall what they were stuck into at the birthday parties I went to as a child.

I don't think cocktail sticks are a good idea if children are running around with them.

I love sandwiches. Easily portable and if they are in airtight tubs till just before they are served they won't go dry. Alternatively, hunks of pre-buttered French stick and cubes of cheese?

kateandme · 19/06/2018 19:14

could you do both.some cheese sandwhiches and cheese and pinaple sticks.

StripySocksAndDocs · 19/06/2018 23:23

They'd be 11/12 years old Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g so the concern about skewering with a cocktail stick (shudders) is fairly low. in theory anyway.
