PONCE ALERT - but is anyone else having trouble getting hold of MANUKA HONEY atm?

The nice lady on the preserves section at (PONCE ALERT 2) Waitrose told me yesterday that there's some problem getting hold of it - are the Kiwi bees on strike? I ran out and the day after developed my first sore throat of the year. I need some now. Health food shops' 10+ tastes like germolene and costs three times what the Rowse stuff from Waitrose costs.

If you're in the 'rose this week, do us a favour and check their shelves for me - ta.

Strepsils mate

Twiglett · 22/05/2007 13:33

I like the Rowse squeezy honey myself .. honey in a squeezy bottle .. in-geeen-ious

BearintheBigBlueHouse · 22/05/2007 13:37

before they brought out squeezy honey, I entertained the thought of making my millions by introdcuing the honey magnates to the toothpaste tube magnates - easy squeezy, minimal waste; but I never got round to it and then Rowse brought out their squeezy bottles and I quite enjoyed the fart noises they make so I kind of left it there. The money would have ruined me.

thanks for the strepsils tip - don't know why I ever thought of that, cheers

Hi,
I love Manuka Honey, if only it wouldn't be so bloody expensive, eh!
There are some online shops who sell it:
here, I am sure the first one is a +5 one
And you can also get it on E-bay

I bought mine from Holland& Barrets the last time I bought it, and it is a 5+ whihc taste lovely.
Had seen it in Morrisons the other week, but looked last week there and nada Might explain it though, if there is a shortage)

Can I jsut say that all raw honey is of course good (especially for colds...) but that obviously active Manuka honey has extra good properties...it's the only active honey, as far as I am aware!
Must admit though, as I mainly use it for sweetening of my smoothies and things like that, I ahve decided that raw Honey will do just fine, lol...and bought some Rowse Clear organic honey and some Romanian Sunflower one....!

MercyLovesMika · 22/05/2007 13:57

Just found this manuka honey shortage!

MuffinMclay · 22/05/2007 14:52

I'm sure they had it in Hitchin Waitrose on Monday (spotted it when buying some bog standard stuff).

Going again tomorrow morning. Will check again and report back.

Lullabyloo · 22/05/2007 15:04

I get Manuka 15 from Holland & Barret

Wheelybug · 22/05/2007 15:14

Saw it in holland and barratt last week (had lots of pots of it IIRC). Haven't looked for it in waitrose but will do next time I am there... Have you looked on Ocado ?

Wheelybug · 22/05/2007 15:16

OCado only have 10+ on it.

I had an unopened jar in my cupboard for ages (which had ocme all the way from NZ) but I opened it for dd to try last week and she turned her nose up at it so it will probably sit in my fridge till it goes off which isn't much help to you !

MuffinMclay · 25/05/2007 16:29

Did you find any? Waitrose in Hitchin had lots this morning, as did the health store in town.

expatinscotland · 25/05/2007 16:30

No, I'm so poncy I only buy locally produced honey .

From Scarlett's apiary in lower Perthshire.

Lovely couple who have a stall at the farmer's market. Brilliant heather honey, too.

And their son makes beeswax candles that have become a real hit at their stall - 2 for £1.80 and they burn for ages and smell fab.

JiminyCricket · 26/05/2007 13:47

I broke a jar of it once in my distinctly un-poncey greengrocers and the woman had said 'never mind' before she noticed the price tag

ghosty · 26/05/2007 13:51

I can get you some.

Will cost you 100 quid a jar + postage ...
