I have been trying the baby led weaning approach since my son was 6-7 months old. He is know 8 months and is trying a variety of foods, but only litte bites. Breastfeeding is the main food source. Has anybody else tried this approach and what did you offer how did you get on? It feels like the right approach fo him.. I just need some ideas,

bump - you need aitch's help but i am sure there are quite a few threads on BLW in the weaning section

I'm planning to try this approach too; have a few months to go as my daughter only 4 months but was planning to try things like cooked sweet potato cut into chunks, peeled apple or pear, cooked broccoli (is that ambitious as not sure it'd be popular)

Hope you're getting on well with it! sorry i don't have more experience

my nanny friend has just been through this on her now 18 month old charge

the result he is only just learning to eat rfom a spoon (eg yogurt... things that you MUST have a spoon for)

I think it is quite a newish approach that sounds great... but the reality (at least in this case) seems to be a toddler reluctant to use any eating utensils at all... and imo and in my friends opion its all a bit of a nightmare!

I mean... we adults eat with forks / spoons so baby ought to as well IMO

I may have got the wrong point about BLW (as may my nanny friend) BUT the point of it as far as i think is whole foods like finger foods never pureed ... therefore eaten with fingers

I'm interested to know more, this is new to me as ds is nearly five now! Looking back some of ds absolute favourite foods (and ones that I loved him having because of the nutritional value of them) were quite sloppy, like cauliflower cheese or fish pie...would these not be allowed then?!

ds2 i blw, He had breadsticks, rice cakes, raisons etc from about 7 months when we stopped bf. He weaned as he was ready and was on "proper" meals from about 14 months. it worked really well and no messing around with messy purees!

I have blw'd with all 5 of my children....introducing safe finger food versions of what we are eating from about 7.5/8 months,( I never bother with the slopy gloop version of baby food ),and then just let them go at their own pace.It can be slow my DDs,( twins..8 weeks prem ), are 11.5 months and are still at the stage your son is, so don't despair. They are also fully breastfed, the food nature intended for babies in the first 2 years of life..
