I've been thinking about getting it too. Just bought the soprano's cookbook today which I can't wait to arrive! We love pasta dishes so it should go down well. I'm always looking for new recipes to try.

The Dinnerlady book is fab. We cook lots out of it and they all go down really well.

The sweet and sour, and the curry are both very good.

I made Home made chicken nuggets this evening, and they hated them. They were a bit sweet - might try again with cheese mixed in with the crunchy coating. I was impressed how easy and quick it was, though. Might have to try to find Enid's (is it?) recipe and try that, too - maybe it'll go down better.

yogimum · 21/05/2007 20:22

thanks

smoggie · 21/05/2007 20:31

Her moussaka recipe is great too - ds's love it. Jam roly poly one didn't turn out very well, but have it on good authority that the ckn nuggets are lovely too.

smoggie · 21/05/2007 20:32

Or maybe not!! JackieNo

JackieNo · 21/05/2007 20:35

Maybe the Dinner Lady version is better than the one I used, smoggie - that was a Waitrose one.

hairycaterpillar · 21/05/2007 21:13

I dont get it are the recipes hers or Jamie Olivers...I'm not a fan of his cooking TBH.

[oh and waswondering I was wondering if you still have my Tots size 3...I want to sell them to raise funds for some bambineos!!]

thedogsbollox · 21/05/2007 21:18

Hairycaterpiller - it is a different dinner lady! Not the JO one

I really like the recipes and the children like almost everything I've cooked from the book - and I have done a lot

There is nothing much that is very faffy either - so usually very quick and easy to make.

I love the chicken nuggets too! The pork balls with spaghetti and tomato sauce are scrummy. Tomato and sausage casserole, bbq pork - all favourites now!

rosmerrin · 21/05/2007 23:08

Every recipe I have tried from this book has been great. My DS3 (2) who won't eat anything other than fishfingers and sausages ate a whole chicken breast worth of the chicken nuggets. I was very impressed!

hairycaterpillar · 22/05/2007 09:37

Hmmm ok just presumed as he'd done the foreward in the book it must be same one!

No problem...was paranoid I'd lost them somewhere in my messy home! At least I know they are "safe" how many have you got?! Are you going to be in this neck of the woods at all?

hairycaterpillar · 22/05/2007 20:04

Did you use them by the way...I found them useless on my DS he hated them...and is STILL in night nappy but had to resort to disp .

This is just the thread I have been looking for ..

So, are we agreed that the dinnerlady book is the best children's cookbook I could go out and buy because I have so far bought..

Annabel Karmel - (I'm never making fish in orange juice again)

Anthony W-T - no time, sorry, to do broccoli custard

Jane Clarke, Yummy - too smug

Tana Ramsay - quite good but it'll be a while until I make homemade baked beans.

I have two fussy eaters and I think after this that maybe the dinner lady could be the answer to my prayers.

tortoise · 22/05/2007 21:09

I have the 2nd dinner lady book and cooked my 1st attempt at cottage pie from it and my DS's loved it. Shame fussy DD's didn't but still an achievement especially with DS2!
I keep meaning to buy the 1st one as it is suppose to be better.

moodlumthehoodlum · 22/05/2007 21:11

Oh no - there are two books? DH will be unlikely to let another two cookbooks into the house to gather dust?

tortoise · 22/05/2007 21:12

yes there are two!
