I think its also easier to digest than cows milk

I buy it for my son who has lots of ear problems. But i still give him cows as well because i find its more expensive so might not be working at all. Its hard to tell.

not me, but a friend drinks it for his eczema - have seen what happens when he has cows' and it is not pretty.

cows milk makes me ill - headaches, aching limbs, runny nose, "cotton wool" brain, tired, yet more headaches.
Fortunately goats milk doesnt seem to have the same effect.

jelly, if your son does react to cows milk and he is still having it, the goats milk probably wont make any difference. But I sympathise re the cost.

I have read that cows milk is one of several possible causes for excema, but dont have any personal experience.

thanks, thats really interesting. dd is starting to get excema, she's only a few months so still bf at the moment.
does anyone know know if it is the same guidelines for giving to infants as cows milk?

think so - ie not suitable as main drink till 12mo but ok in cooking from 6mo. Make sure you get the fulll-fat stuff and it's worth shopping around to find the cheapest place near you.

Nightynight · 22/05/2007 16:18

Goats milk is rather frowned upon because it is lower in folic acid than cows milk, I think. Shouldnt cause a problem, if your child has a healthy diet though. (eats loads of veg, ha ha ha?)
However, it was traditionally used as the main drink for infants, because it is more digestible.

the cheapest is tesco own brand, unless youve got a farm on your doorstep

The proteins are smaller in goats milk than cows, and it is much closer in composition to human milk. I'm cutting it all out at the moment to help LO's excema and then plan to introduce goats milk (to my diet) afterwards. Although some are still allergic to the goat proteins, often the symptoms are significantly better. I don't LOVE the taste of it in tea but prefer it to rice milk anyway!

My gp swears that dairy doesn't get into breastmilk but I think that's out of date. HV said it's definitely worth trying and his excema/wheeziness/watery eyes are improving.
