Can someone tell me how you do this (I think it's sth to do with putting them in hot water then cold water but am not sure)?

just put them under the hot water tap for a while and then the skin just comes off

I score the skins with sharp knife then put in just boiled water for abotu 30 secs then cold water. Skins peel off easily

If you have a gas cooker, put them on a skewer or old fork and hold in the flame, turning. The skin splits and pings back then you can pull off

I just put them in a bowl of just boiled water, leave for a bout 30 secs or so and then stick a fork into them. The skin peels away from the fork and you've also got something to hold on to while you are peeling them. If a bit of skin sticks, I just stick them back in the hot water for a wee bit longer and then "re-prong" them in the "stuck" bit.

Marvellous - my next soup attempt will be much better that last time I fudged it by leaving the skins on!

I score them all the way round, put them in a bowl and cover with just boiled water for a minute or so. Skin peels off easily. The fork is a good idea though for holding them as they can get v slippy!

The easiest way definitely is to score an 'X' at the base, put in boiling water for 30 seconds, then right into ice water. You can just pull the skin right off and the tomato isn't cooked at all.
