I love to cook but I am so bored cooking the same old stuff, week after week. What are you all cooking for dinner? Can you give me inspiration

DH has escaped to the pub - so it's Sainsburys Vegetable Dansak and Thai rice - a grand total of seven minutes in the microwave which allows time to add some runner beans. Delicious. Frankly, I don't know where I get the time or the inspiration. Nigella eat your heart out.

Azzie - and there was I thinking that the deep pan frozen pizza with scrambled egg, bacon, baked bean and sausage topping that I spotted in the supermarket cabinet could not be beaten.

Tigger2 - we had the chicken, veggie, baked bean thing last night with cous cous and it was amazing! One of the easiest things to put together and was completely delicious - thank you. I tend only to do that all-in-one pot thing in the winter with stews and casseroles but this made a lovely summer dish. Dh esp liked the cous cous and the baked beans made it v tasty.

PamT, if I was in the condemned cell, I would ask for a fish finger sandwich as my last meal... brown "plastic" bread and lashings of mayonnaise!!!

PamT · 25/07/2002 10:33

Tissy, fishfinger butties, yummy - I also love salad cream on chips (but not greasy chip shop ones) and no this isn't a pregnancy craving, they are just so right together!

Tissy · 25/07/2002 10:44

Mmm

PamT · 25/07/2002 10:48

Tissy perhaps our tastes are actually more common (usualy) than common (uncultured).

PamT · 25/07/2002 10:51

Sorry, typo, I meant common as in not unusual rather than common as in uncultured, uneducated etc - but I appear to be that too today. I blame lack of sleep and hunger! Ignore me and I'll go away.....

Willow2 · 25/07/2002 14:19

If I was in the condemned cell I would want a white farmhouse loaf, slab of butter and jar of Skippy peanut butter. (And I wonder why I'm having difficulty losing weight!)

Tissy · 25/07/2002 14:24

Peanut butter!!!!

Haven't had any for months...dd is still bfing am I allowed to eat it yet?

Enid · 25/07/2002 14:50

funnily enough, as I am reading this thread I am also tucking into to a plate of plastic bread (toasted) with marmite and peanut butter. Food of the gods.

Azzie · 25/07/2002 15:05

Hmm... toasted freshly made Granary bread with lashings of salted butter and Nutella ... that combination of the salty and sweet...absolute bliss

ionesmum · 25/07/2002 18:53

Since turning veggie fish fingers are one of the things that I really miss. You can get fake bacon and burgers, but not fake fish.

During my pregnancy I ate oven chips with egg mayonnaise!

PamT · 25/07/2002 20:05

ionesmum, I have some good news for you. The Redwood Company who make Cheezly, non dairy cheese have just released 'Making Waves' vegan fish style fingers, they come in 215g packs at a recommended retail price of £2.49 but are on a special introductory offer of £2.25 according to my local wholefood wholesaler. I've no idea what they will taste like but they might just satisfy that craving. Ask about them next time you go to a health food shop, they might get some in for you.

Oooooooooooh, thank you!

PamT · 26/07/2002 15:23

ionesmum, if you try either of them let us know what they are like, I'm curious as to whether the texture or taste would be anything like the real thing.

ionesmum · 26/07/2002 15:39

Will do, if I can find them! (I'm a bit in the sticks)

Enid · 26/07/2002 16:04

Tigger, just to say I made your baked bean casserole thingy this morning and it is delicious - dd ate an enormous great bowl of it and so did I! I used lamb bits which were lovely but I think it would be really nice with sausages too. Thanks

Tigger2 · 26/07/2002 19:48

Thank you, it is a good easy thing to make and most kids love it as well!!

Bozza · 26/07/2002 21:26

Debster made your stuffed peppers tonight and thought it was delicious.

FrancesJ · 26/07/2002 21:59

These recipes all sound totally wonderful! I wondered if anyone has any gorgeous suggestions for cauliflower? I do an organic box thingy, which is lovely, but at the moment I'm getting enormous cauliflower's every week, so it's either soup, or, like tonight, cauliflower cheese. Latest cauliflower (I've a backlog) is totally beautiful - a green and whirly variety that looks like something out of a sci-fi novel. It's still a cauliflower though. Help!

ionesmum · 27/07/2002 13:45

It's not particularly different, but I like cauli in a rich tomato or ratatoiulle- style sauce with grated cheese.

PamT · 27/07/2002 16:01

Perhaps Mumsnet could publish a Mums' favourite recipes book along with the other Mumsnet books. If each member sent in their own favourite it would be a great book with a really wide range of recipes. I'd buy it. There could be a kids meals version too.

threeangels · 27/07/2002 17:44

PamT, I love that recipe book idea.
