Hot smokers

Am looking longingly at stove top hot smokers

(this kind of thing www.hotsmoked.co.uk/starter-kits/hot-smoking-kits/camerons-stovetop-starter-kit.html )

Do I want one, or do I just think I do...?

Will I use it to produce a variety of tasty things, or will I use it twice and stick it at the back of the appliance graveyard cupboard?

Obviously you can't really answer for me, but if you have one, are they worth it? Smile

We have just bought a Weber Smokey Mountain for full on smoking/slow cooking outside (overnight briskets..) we used it every day on the recent bank holiday weekend - I was a bit sceptical as it was DH pushing it - but the food was amazing. Am a convert..

I know its not the same as your link but I'd say yes!

Well now I'm coveting more ambitious smokers Grin

Do it! If your name reflects your location we can have smoker parties Grin

Dh has a large smoker he uses outside
Cheaper fatty meat seems to work best. Duck is nice and last weekend he did some belly pork. It’s best seared on a bbq briefly afterwards
Also fish seems to work pretty well
Not really my cuppa but he’s really into it

I got one of those stovetop ones in America and it is fantastic.

OH a keen sea fisherman, the smoked mackerel he produces with an outside one is superb. Never tried anything else though. Ours was much cheaper than this. www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00IJC3LKC/ref=psdc_4295710031_t1_B00Q6UT9ZA?tag=mumsnetforum-21

Does a stovetop one not set off smoke detectors?

We’ve got a Weber Smokey Mountain as well, have had some lovely things off it - faves are brisket, home made bacon and we even smoked some cheddar which was so good

myrtleWilson · 17/05/2018 22:39

ooh zgaze tell me more about smoking cheese in the WSM?

TyneTeas · 17/05/2018 23:26

This article about types of smokers is quite interesting for any fellow ditherers Grin

Basically I want the performance of a big outdoor one for the price and convenience of a stovetop one : /

Does a stovetop one not set off smoke detectors?

Nope, that's the great thing about it. It has a tight fitting lid so the smoke is contained inside. You can smell it but it doesn't set the alarm off.

Wish I could say the same for the toaster!

Thank you Black
