Baked Beans: Reduced salt and sugar, or Organic?

And why can't I have both in one tin?!

DS (9 months) loves 'em but I always annoy myself by having this dilemma for ages whilst stood in the beans aisle. I've generally gone for reduced salt etc when I can, but I've not decided definitively and I'd like to!

(I know it's not exactly life or death as decisions go, but it bugs me nevertheless...)

Yes you can: get the Whole Earth ones. THey're rather nice.

oh fgs just buy heinz baked beans .. its not like he's gonna be living on them

Yes you can get organic healthy ones with no/reduced sugar from the health food shop. I'm not happy with my 8m DS having artificial sweeteners so he has health shop beans at 77p a can. It's a bit expensive but he doesn't have them very often so I don't mind.

Twiglett · 17/05/2007 15:41

standard beans have about 0.5g salt per 100g
reduced salt ones have about 0.3g salt per 100g

not really much difference

Twiglett · 17/05/2007 15:42

oh and would far prefer sugar to sweeteners

the organic thing is a matter of preference and environmental standpoint though

motherinferior · 17/05/2007 16:06

The Whole Earth ones are sweetened with apple juice.

Right then, health food shop beans it is from now on. I don't give DS much that isn't organic at the moment because he's still so tiny, so will def go healthy bean shopping.

Cheers for the tip!
