Any one used those large range style cookers? or are they not worth it?

Moving house in 7 weeks and the previous owners had a range syle cooker which they are taking. Not like an aga but one with 5+ rings and 2-3 ovens. I enjoy cooking and when doing things like aroast do run out of room but am just wondering whether they are a bit of a gimmick or wonderful. They also seem a bit complicated.

Our other alternative it to get a cheapy second hand cooker and then get a large hob and separate oven when we have the kitchen redone (when ever that will be !)

Just looking for a bit of advice and needed to get an idea of what I should look. Any thoughts, good or bad?

We had the kitchen redone a year ago, and I got a 5 ring, 2 oven rangestyle cooker. It's great, with gas rings, 1 gas oven, and the other electric. It means, I can do a sunday roast, and sponge cake at the same time, and pizza and oven chips for the whole family. It IS worth it to me, because there are seven of us, and I really needed the extra oven. Also it's brushed steel, and looks great. My kids would tell you it is the love of my life. Sad, I know.

We had one in a holiday cottage and it was quite good - nice to have 5 well-spaced rings on the hob but not sure I'd honestly ever need 3 ovens.
Dead easy to use - wasn't any more complicated than a normal hob and double-oven combo, just with an extra knob for the 3rd oven.

Deepnds if/when you're ever likely to re-do the kitchen - is it a country-style one that ould suit a range cooker and/or has it a fireplace alcove bit where one would naturally fit?
I'd like one if I had a big country kitchen but think it'd look silly in our 60s end-of-terrace...

Personally, I prefer a double oven in a tall unit so you don't need to stoop to put stuff in the oven - and separate hob.

We moved into a house a year ago with a 'Rangemaster Elan' cooker already in it. It has 2 ovens, a grill and 5 gas rings. Everone always seems impressed by it and think its huge. Personally, I think the ovens are small. The second one only takes tins and swiss roll trays, as it is long and thin. The main oven seems smaller than the oven I had at my last house. I enjoy having the 5 rings, but get annoyed with the ovens. It is possible to get bigger ones that hopefully have more substantial ovens.

We have one of these, it was in the house when we bought it. It has four rings, a large flat hot plate and a plate warmer thingy on top, and two ovens and a grill below. TBH the majority of the time we only really use one part at a time, but it is great for sunday roasts or if you have baking in whilst cooking tea.

I've moved into a house with a Rangemaster Classic - 2 ovens, sep grill, 4 rings, griddle and platewarmer. I'ts useful to have two ovens but the only time I've really used it all is Christmas dinner. Maybe if you do a lot of roasts or baking simultaneously. I never use the flat griddle or warmer, and have them permanently covered with a big wooden chopping board, also have removed annoying glass lid. I think it looks dated and overpowering - the must-have kitchen accessory of 1999. Goes with the twiddly antique pine units and multicoloured tiles though!

To be honest I'd rather have more worktop and cupboard space. If i re-did the kitchen I'd go for a good, 60cm wide double gas cooker with a grill in the top oven, like a Cannon Chesterfield, or maybe a Stoves. You still have two ovens, grill and four decent rings. I had one of these in the last house that I loved, got it nearly new from Loot for £100!

I have this one

I love it, 2 ovens, 8 rings (griddle plate optional) and a grill, together with a pan storage drawer. I bake and oven cook a lot and usually just use one oven, but if we're entertaining its invaluable.

oh, I will say that the one in the rented cottage had a halogen hob, so when the rings weren't on it was a handy flat work surface - admittedly I do prefer gas for cooking but if you're short on counter space but still want one it's worth a thought.

Thanks for all the comments. Hadn't thought of the more to clean element! Do still really like them and just think it might be easier then having to buy a tempory cooker til we get round to redoing the kitchen and extension.

might go and drool over them in John Lweis and see what they all do!
