Housewarming food ideas?

cucumbersalads · 11/05/2018 07:51

Having a housewarming for about 8-10 people - in early July on a non school night starting about 8:30. Planning a largely vegetarian spread with a couple of options for meat eaters..... will be buffet style and would like plenty of variety :)

Any ideas? Also drink wise anything outside of usual beer and wine I could do?

Shoot all your nice unusual variable ideas please! Also - surely I can mix and match across cuisines or will it be nicer to have a theme of some sort?

It depends what cuisines you're considering really as some go nicely together or with similar side dishes. Some combinations would be a bit weird.

My go-to at the moment is sort of vaguely Greek/Middle Eastern/Moroccan - tagine, tabbouleh, lentil moussaka, flat breads, some salads, dips, halloumi... as there's lots of you you could also do a filo pie of some sort, maybe some falafel. I like it as most stuff can be prepared in advance, and actually tastes better for it as the flavours develop, so no stressing in the kitchen when guests arrive. And I like to have a vague theme. It's basically "things I have eaten in mezze restaurants".

Sorry that's not particularly helpful is it Hmm but maybe when other people suggest things you can mix and match to get a range of cuisines.

Enjoy recipe browsing. There are soooo many delicious things you could make! Now I'm wondering who I can invite so I can make this all myself Grin

If you want to do dips I recommend houmous (of course), htipiti, melitzanosalata or mutabal, maybe tzatziki.

You could also make your own labneh. It's a Lebanese soft cheese and it's ridiculously easy to make, but people are always so impressed when you say you've made your own cheese Grin

Sorry that should be moutabal, I think. Autocorrect really didn't like it Hmm

If you’re off to look at mezze/middle eastern, I highly recommend the Middle Eastern Vegetarian Cookbook, it’s fantastic, my fave cookbook ever (and I have many)

Breads and dips etc is very going to be wrong. I make my own humous and babaganoush which is really easy and always goes down well

For summery drinks you could have Pimms, sangria or Bellini style with prosecco & peach juice.

All absolutely awesome ideas!!!!! Thank you Grin
