Difference between a processor and a blender?!

Stupid question no doubt, but I've always done everything in our food processor (now broken). Urgently need a new one to quickly whip up last-minute fairy cakes for DS's 'baby welcoming' party. Nigella says put all ingredients in a processor but John Lewis website has both processors and blenders - processors mention cutting and chopping but as all I'm doing is mixing, really, I'm a bit confused!

Can anyone also recommend a good model - not too expensive - of whatever it is I need?!

Don't blenders just blend liquids (e.g. soups), rather than food processors which can process more solid things (like chop veg and mix cakes). That's what I thought anyway!

Personally I have a Kenwood Chef, dear but delightful for cakes .

Thanks Clayhead! I guess that's what I thought but then I thought 'why would anyone need a machine to mix liquids?' !
