Certain types of seasoning salts etc and probably loads of other things! Can't think offhand, but it's scary how often you see it in print on the back of packets!

tinytoes, I am also intolerant to it. It tends to be in chicken flavoured things, most crisps, Chinese food, some cheese biscuits, some stuffed olives, and chicken stock cubes (except organic ones). It's also known as E621. Can be quite hard to avoid.

am i right in thinking that if things contain it they have to say-it can just say 'flavour enhancer'

My son can't have it- he's autistic with a leaky gut and it sends him up the wall. If he gets it accidentally now he screams.

Avoid flavour enhancers. He also has to avoid yeast extract as it has the same form of glutamate (or something- bit hazy) so watch out for that- although you may be fine.

He has plain ready salted Walkers crisps without problems. If you look in the organic section then you will find Bouillon- the stuff in the green tubs is fine as a stock.

Almost all chinese food, some thai food. Soy sauce (low sodium usually doesn't have it), almost all pot noodles. Lots of packet (dried) soups.

I have cut msg out of our diet completely.
more info
It is hard to cut out as it is hidden under different names. I had a really good website that is an association trying to ban msg - but cant find it!
I believe that 'yeast extract' is also a form of msg. You can cut it out. I have changed out diet to include a lot more fresh produce and as much simple unprocessed foods as possible. feel much better for it.

i'd avoid chinese restuarants & takeways ... its one of the main ingredients in chinese cooking
